Position Summary The Department of Microbiology, Genetics, & Immunology seeks a Research Technologist I to conduct research under the direction of Research Associates and the PI in order to generate data for support of research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Thomas O'Halloran. The O'Halloran laboratory focuses on quantitative understanding of the molecular mechanisms and regulatory roles of transition metal in controlling cellular physiology. The O'Halloran group adopts a highly interdisciplinary approach to elucidate the physical-inorganic chemistry, the genetics, mechanisms, structures, and biochemistry and metal ion fluxes in biology and the receptors that regulate the way cells respond to those fluxes.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques in the specific or related field; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The job may require the appropriate pesticide applicator's registration/certification and/or experience working with potentially dangerous research animals.
Desired Qualifications Excellent organizational and communication skills; extremely motivated and dependable; ability to take charge and oversee lab procedures; experience doing lab work; experience in computer programming in programs such as R, MatLab, or Python is preferred; experience with data analysis and statistics including data presentation; interest in biological questions related to infectious diseases including a strong desire to learn cell culture, murine models of disease, immunology, and or genetics.
