Requirements Researcher, Digital Benefits Network - Beeck Center - Georgetown University
Georgetown's was founded in 2014 to provide training and experiential opportunities for students, faculty, and global leaders to enact solution-based social change. Job Overview
Beeck Center Researchers are hired to join one or more of our project teams and turn big ideas into actionable insights. Our Researchers collect comprehensive information with, from, and about practitioners, in order to publish landscape scans, findings, stories, case examples, and insights to be shared across our networks. Researchers are critical for understanding opportunity spaces by documenting existing solutions and gaps where solutions can be created by the Beeck Center and partners in the public interest tech space. Researchers are responsible for :
Developing methods for surfacing insights from across the field Capturing and documenting what's happening (surveys, interviews, case studies, case examples, and summary reports) Supporting their project team as they identify ways that the Beeck Center can better support the needs of government and public interest practitioners using data, technology, and design to drive toward better outcomes in society About the Digital Benefits Network :
For the past two years, the Beeck Center has been leading a research project to better understand how data, technology, and design interventions are making it easier for eligible people to access Social Safety Net Benefits. As millions of Americans seek core financial, housing, nutrition, health, and family support, they are faced with barriers to receiving and keeping public benefits, including complex processes and unclear communication. This project centers the needs of people seeking assistance with data-informed approaches and equitable technology that expands access to public benefits and improves the operations of the agencies delivering them. We have extensively researched and documented the landscape of actors in this space and their efforts, created guides to replicate and scale best practices, and identified gaps where more activity and collaboration is needed. Now, we are activating a Digital Benefits Network to support public interest practitioners who work on social safety net benefits policy, service delivery, and technology. The Network generates insights, fosters collaboration, and sparks advocacy to advance the delivery of benefits and increase economic opportunity for more Americans. The Digital Benefits Network team currently consists of Fellow Ariel Kennan, an incoming Community Manager, and our Student Analysts. The Researcher will join them to play the critical role of inspiring what is possible, advocating for proven approaches across jurisdictions, and amplifying what works. Work Interactions
Our Researchers work very closely and frequently with their project team (Fellows, a Community Manager, and Student Analysts). They report to Beeck Center Director of Programs Taylor Campbell and work closely with Director of Communications Shannon Felton Spence and Program Manager Grace Lacy-Hansell to track the development of their research and publications.
Researchers are charged with building and maintaining relationships with and among government and public-service practitioners and policy makers. They serve as domain experts and points of contact for members of our networks, which will include employees of agencies at all levels of government and employees of non-profit organizations.
Researchers also work to identify opportunities for collaboration across other teams at the Beeck Center and the broader Georgetown community. Qualifications
