Description The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, located in Rockville, MD, seeks qualified candidates for the position of Senior Accountant, a full-time position reporting to the Controller.
The Senior Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to financial information, preparing timely and accurate financial reports and analysis, and ensuring that appropriate internal control procedures are followed. In addition, the Senior Accountant provides analysis and interpretation of financial information to support management decisions. This position also administers the school's tuition management and assistance programs.
Essential Duties:
• Full responsibility for month-end and quarter-end close of the general ledger, including preparation of reconciliations and journal entries in a timely manner.
• Prepare quarterly interim workpapers and financial statements.
• Facilitate appropriate and timely data entry by accounting staff and related departments.
• Provide audit support and assist in the timely completion of all regulatory filings.
• Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal control procedures.
• Administer the school's tuition management and assistance programs, working directly with families on a regular basis; maintain accurate and informative records, analyze trends and forecast future needs.
• Manage and resolve collections.

Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in accounting
• 3-5 years of experience, preferably in public accounting or a school business office
• Thorough knowledge of accounting theory and demonstrated ability to apply theory in practice.
• Superior analytical skills and the ability to research and reconcile difficult accounts.
• Proven ability to maintain accuracy and meet deadlines while managing a variety of tasks.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, solve problems creatively, and achieve optimum results.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word
• Experience preferred with Sage Intacct, BILL, BlackBaud Raiser's Edge, FACTS, and FAST

Work Environment
The Senior Accountant is expected to work onsite at our Lower School campus in Rockville, MD. Employees may be asked to perform some of their work responsibilities on campus and/or at home. In both settings, employees are required to maintain a professional environment.
