Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the WNBA Accounting Lead, the WNBA Senior Accountant will be responsible for the analytical review, reconciliation, and maintenance of the general ledger accounts of the WNBA.
The role will also incorporate responsibilities with respect to the NBA's investment in the 2K League and the accounting for the NBA's shared facilities model as well as ad-hoc projects and requests assisting the various subgroups within the NBA's Global Controllership Group.
Major Responsibilities: Responsible for the month end close process for the WNBA including performance of accurate and timely account reconciliations Research significant and/or unusual activity, and propose correcting journal entries to management ensuring compliance with GAAP and NBA regulations Primary accounting partner for the WNBA managing relationships with various NBA finance groups such as FP&A, tax, treasury and accounting operations. Assist WNBA finance and business teams with proper application of relevant accounting guidance as it relates to revenue recognition, expense accruals, and other areas to ensure appropriate accounting and related journal entries. Perform ad hoc analysis and projects from business partners to support decision making as needed.
This includes analysis related to the NBA's shared services model and related schedules. Preparing and managing standalone WNBA year-end audit reports as well as corresponding audit support workpapers.
Also assist with preparation of year-end reconciliations and audit support for other NBA entities, as needed. Primary point of contact for external auditors for the WNBA's standalone audit report. Ensure proper presentation of financial statements and necessary financial disclosures for the WNBA standalone audit report. Preparation and review of various WNBA financial analyses including team dues, trademark and team reimbursements, etc. Preparation of WNBA journal entry recording for reconciliations, and analysis, as needed. Perform monthly analysis of various revenue and expense accounts on WNBA income statements. Manage the relationship with the NBA 2K League via regular conversations and reporting received from the 2K League controller.
Schedule quarterly updates and conversations to understand the monthly results, projected financials and translate this information into monthly journal entries associated with the NBA's investment in its 2K League joint venture with Take Two. Assist in refining and improving accounting processes, financial reporting systems, and internal controls to increase operational effectiveness and ensure the integrity of financial information. Remain current with FASB and relevant pronouncements and apply them to WNBA processes as appropriate.
Required Education/Professional Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting CPA license preferred. Minimum of 3+ years' experience in public or private accounting functions Previous Big 4 experience preferred Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes: Proficient in Microsoft Excel including use of pivot tables, v-lookups and other advanced functions and Word applications Must be well organized, able to multi-task, and detail-oriented Knowledge of SAP or Blackline preferred Understanding of GAAP accounting principles and appropriate application Flexible to work extended hours during peak seasons Strong interpersonal and communication skills Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000
