Title: Senior Attorney Status: Full-time, Exempt Location: Portland, OR /Hybrid Organization: Victim Rights Law Center (VRLC) is a nonprofit law center that provides free legal representation to sexual assault survivors in Oregon and Massachusetts and national training and support for lawyers and advocates on survivors' civil legal needs. VRLC's mission is to provide legal representation to survivors of rape and sexual assault to help rebuild their lives; and to promote a national movement committed to seeking justice for every rape and sexual assault survivor. Description: The Senior Attorney will be a leader on VRLC's direct services team providing legal representation to sexual assault survivors in Oregon with a focus on Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington Counties. The Senior Attorney will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: privacy, safety, immigration, employment, housing, education, and/or criminal justice advocacy.
Responsibilities: Provide sexual assault survivors with legal consultations, representation, and referrals in one or more of the following areas: privacy, safety, civil protection orders, immigration, employment, housing, education, and/or criminal justice advocacy Conduct intakes, initial consultations, and client meetings with sexual assault survivors remotely, at VRLC's Portland office, and off-site in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington Counties, as needed Collaborate with the organization's leadership to make strategic decisions around direct services, outreach, trainings, and program staffing Work collaboratively with our team of lawyers and paralegals Mentor staff attorneys and paralegals including case support and professional development Lead grant-funded work by tracking client services data, drafting grant report narratives, and fulfilling specific grant deliverables Participate and provide guidance in case assessment meetings Train, mentor, and support pro bono attorneys representing VRLC clients Conduct strategic outreach to community partners and foster strong relationships with other organizations including those working in the field of gender-based violence Required Qualifications: Minimum 5 years legal experience; 3 years as a practicing attorney Current member in good standing or eligible to waive into the Oregon State Bar Courtroom and litigation experience Commitment to providing trauma-informed, survivor-centered services Experience and/or demonstrated commitment to working with trauma survivors and/or marginalized communities (e.g. LGBTQIA2S+, communities of color, people with disabilities) Desire to help VRLC build a culturally diverse and inclusive work environment Satisfactory background check after receiving conditional offer of employment Valid driver's license and comfortable driving throughout Oregon
