As a Senior Commercialization Leader at JAX, you will play a pivotal role in evaluating technologies and intellectual property for commercial potential, focusing on licensing through technology transfer activities. Collaborating closely with the Vice President of the JAX Rare Disease Translational Center (RDTC), JAX faculty, and staff, you'll develop innovative strategies to market and license intellectual property and new products for commercialization.
This role is remote with travel as needed.
Key Responsibilities (What you contribute)
Commercialization Leadership: Constantly evaluate JAX technologies and intellectual property for commercial potential and licensing through technology transfer activities.
Stakeholder Management: Work closely with the Vice President of the JAX Rare Disease Translational Center, JAX faculty and staff to develop innovative strategies to market and license intellectual property and new products for commercialization. Draft and oversee the agreement process with key internal JAX leadership (PI, Legal, CFO).
Communication: Consolidate complex technical data for the Rare Disease Translational Center's pre-clinical drug discovery initiatives. Analyze commercial viability, outline value propositions, and elucidate the commercial impact to prospective licensing partners.
Source and Evaluate: Identify prospective commercial partners for JAX's intellectual property assets, assessing startup ventures and investment opportunities aimed at advancing translational research.
Execute Agreements: Collaborate with the legal team to draft term sheets for exclusive license agreements, sponsored research agreements, and collaborative agreements, and negotiate and execute with patient foundations and biotech/pharma companies.
Lead Negotiations: Spearhead negotiations for agreements with start-ups, patient foundations, and biotech/pharma companies to optimize the value of JAX's intellectual property.
Intellectual Property Management: Collaborate with the Chief Intellectual Property Officer to prioritize JAX technology and intellectual property for potential commercialization.
People Leadership: Engage with, oversee, and coach junior business development and licensing professionals in technology transfer and licensing processes.
External Outreach: Craft materials for the Corporate Development Office's representation at external events, conferences, and internal forums.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (What you're good at)
Essential experience in negotiating contracts and legal agreements for technology commercialization.
Ten (10) years experience in Academic (technology transfer) and/or commercial biotech/pharma sectors (business development & licensing).
Advanced knowledge in intellectual property law and comprehension of biomedical research and technology transfer practices.
Bonus if experienced in drug development processes, FDA regulations, start-up ventures, medical devices, or software applications.
Proven track record in successfully negotiating and executing complex deals concerning intellectual property assets.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Capability to comprehend and evaluate early-stage scientific concepts.
Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively.
Advanced knowledge in fostering and maintaining long-term relationships with business partners and faculty inventors.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Expected availability for regular travel as needed, approximately 30% (This is a remote position, with a preference for residence in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic regions, although not mandatory).
Pay Range: $154,596 - $272,217 based on years of prior related experience.
