Job Description The New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy is a nonpartisan think tank in Washington, D.C., working to enhance U.S. foreign policy based on a deep understanding of the geopolitics of the different regions of the world and their value systems. The Special Initiatives team at the New Lines Institute seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as a Senior Intern, Program Assistant supporting the activities and work streams of the Global Rohingya Initiative (GRI). A successful candidate will be offered a six-month internship with potential opportunities for extension or transition to full time.
Program Description Special Initiatives analyzes issues of significant importance to U.S. policymakers and focuses on global issues that are not receiving enough attention. It produces research and analysis that is timely, targeted, and designed to be highly impactful from a policy perspective. Current portfolios include the Western Balkans Center, Central Asia Center, Mass Atrocities and International Law, Transnational Repression Working Group and Complex Conflict Resolution. The role of the Special Initiatives team is to forge and sustain partnerships with relevant domestic and international actors to help drive policy based on New Lines' mission, vision, and principles. 
The GRI is part of the Complex Conflict Resolution (CRR) portfolio. As Program Assistant, a successful applicant will report directly to the CRR Analyst and Senior Director for Special Initiatives. The primary role of the intern will be to support the planning of the GRI retreat and subsequent creation of a global representative body for the Rohingya. Additional tasks will be assigned as needed.
Position Responsibilities Planning Support Assists with monitoring and tracking global policy developments related to GRI's mission and key prioritiesSupports the Analyst and GRI team in the development and implementation of strategies for GRI engagement and partnership with key international partnersAssists with building, mapping, and maintaining a database of key relationships with partners from the U.S. federal government, as well as international organizations, civil society, think tanks, and the private sectorSupports all project management activities including developing and updating portfolio documentsCreates targeted outreach lists and tracks schedules of high-level conferences, events, or other relevant policy conversations that present partnership opportunities for the InstituteCoordinates and facilitates meetings with internal and external partnersBudget and Contract Management  Assists with budgeting and implementation plans for GRIEvent Planning Supports all aspects of GRI Retreat organization, management, and implementationAssists with D.C.-based events related to GRI and other Special Initiatives projects as neededPerforms other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Junior or senior pursuing BA international relations, political science, regional studies or related field. Recent graduates are welcome to apply.One year of work experience, preferably office experience, demonstrating familiarity with coordination and administrative support responsibilitiesSuperb interpersonal skills; good humor and discretionExcellent writing skillsStrong attention to detail, including time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment not necessarily in a 9-to-5 settingCompetence in administration and financial managementStrong skills in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Outlook, and ExcelStrong time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlinesExperience organizing conferences, meetings, and events preferredDemonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships and strong interpersonal skills, including cross-cultural communicationAll applicants must be authorized to work in the United States to be considered for positions with New Lines.  Location: This position is in Washington, D.C., but will operate on a hybrid schedule. This position requires the applicant to be located in the Washington, D.C., area so they may attend in-person work days, events, and meetings.
Pay: Remuneration for this position is $20-25/hr.
