GSK is seeking a medicinal chemist to join the Encoded Technologies (ET) group. ET is a multidisciplinary group dedicated to the discovery of small molecule hits and the development of lead series. As a Senior Scientist, Lead Discovery Chemistry Encoded Technologies you will identify potential hits from our world leading DNA-encoded library (DEL) platform, synthesize potential hits off-DNA to confirm their activity, and optimize small molecules around drug-like properties (potency, selectivity, solubility, permeability, etc.). You will also work side-by-side with DEL library chemists, biophysicists, computational informaticists, and biologists to push the boundaries of DEL capabilities so that we can better fill the GSK pipeline with high quality chemical assets.
Key Responsibilities :
This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following. Design and synthesize compounds off-DNA for hit confirmation
Conduct parallel synthesis in an array format
Analyze, interpret, and report experimental results in ET Chemistry team meetings
Maintain detailed records of experiments in electronic lab notebooks in accordance with company policy
Share in responsibilities to support general lab functions
Contribute to the writing and conceptual framework of publications, presentations, and patents
Establish and maintain knowledge of literature related to areas of research
Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: BS degree with 3 or more years of relevant work experience, or MS in Chemistry
Experience training in synthetic organic chemistry methods
Experience with analytical tools including LCMS and NMR
Experience with analytical and preparative purification methods (HPLC, silica gel chromatography, TLC, etc)
Experience writing and conceptual framework of publications, presentations, and patents
Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Synthetic organic chemistry research experience in an industrial environment
Experience with multistep organic synthesis
Ability to work independently to design experiments and analyze and present data
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary matrix environment
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and a focus on quality results
Excellent oral and written communication skills
