About the role:
The Senior Software Engineer designs, develops, maintains, and operates business-critical software solutions that handle a high volume of transactions each day. Their goal is to maximize the organization's ability to connect consumers with the right insurance products through technology-driven solutions. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance our technology stack, mentor junior engineers, contribute to software design, and directly impact our mission to improve access to healthcare in America.
What you will do
Build, maintain, and operate robust and secure web-based software solutions, including both back-end and front-end components, ensuring HIPAA compliance.
Design and lead the implementation of high-quality, reliable, and maintainable software following agile best practices.
Guide and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, efficient software solutions.
Ensure exceptional code quality through rigorous code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration.
Serve as an internal champion in code quality, reuse, and extensibility.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues promptly and efficiently.
Monitor and manage software systems in production to ensure optimal performance and availability.
Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers, promoting a collaborative and innovative team environment.
Continuously improve the codebase for enhanced performance, scalability, and security.
Stay at the forefront of industry trends and adopt the best tools and techniques to enhance our technology stack.
Contribute to the architecture and design of software systems.
What we are looking for
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in developing and operating software solutions, preferably in insurance, healthcare, or financial sectors.
Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, Functional Programming, writing software and automated tests (unit, integration, functional), and version control systems.
Experience with Python, and data transformation frameworks, such as pandas.
Proficiency with test-driven development & domain-driven design.
In-depth knowledge of web-based application development.
Expertise in secure coding practices, including handling of protected information (PHI & PII).
Experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Couchbase).
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Proven leadership ability in an agile environment and adaptability to changing requirements.
Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working within a self-organized team.
Commitment to continuous learning and improvement of existing skills and passion for mentoring junior engineers and build a collaborative team environment.
Preferred: Practical knowledge of microservices architecture and serverless computing.
Preferred: Experience with React, TypeScript, and CSS3 (Sass/SCSS) is nice to have.
Preferred: Experience with Terraform, Docker, AWS/ECS deployments, Jenkins, or other CI/CD tools.
Preferred: Knowledge of Enterprise Integration Patterns for distributed systems (Kafka, MQ, Flink) is preferred.
Preferred: Experience with Playwright, Gauge, Selenium/Selenide.
Preferred: Experience with Git.
