Senior Technical Accountant Location Portland, OR (St.Johns area) : HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE Lead the development, implementation and communication of accounting policies while coordinating with other accounting functions, global regions and business partners. Provide consultation to other accounting departments and functional business partners on unusual technical accounting and financial reporting matters to ensure conformity to generally accepted accounting principles and company policies and procedures. Review contractual agreements and document appropriate accounting treatment for contract terms. Communicate conclusions to other accounting departments and business partners. Monitor the activities of accounting standard setting bodies to ensure timely identification of emerging pronouncements and provide thought leadership. Educate management and other stakeholders on emerging FASB & SEC developments; engage with pertinent team members and coordinate adoption and implementation plans for items impacting Columbia Sportswear. Prepare memorandums supporting the company's accounting conclusions pertaining to new standard adoption, application of generally accepted accounting practices and treatment of unusual or significant transactions. Prepare certain aspects of materials to be presented to the audit committee of the board of directors and coordinate presentation topics with other departments, including Tax, Treasury, Finance, and Internal Audit, and the external auditors. Review and provide comments on quarterly SEC filings. Support Global Finance initiative of continuous improvement. Participate in other projects as needed. YOU ARE Demonstrate strong accounting knowledge and understanding with very strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Skilled in problem solving, making decisions, being a self-starter and working effectively under pressure while meeting deadlines. Possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment across a global organization. Continuous improvement thinker, capable of identifying and delivering end-to-end process and technology improvement. Flexible in your approach to deliver outputs that match the changing needs and priority shifts of leadership. YOU HAVE Bachelor's degree in accounting. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience or 3+ years of public accounting experience. CPA preferred. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles proficiency. Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and proficiency in MS Word; Systems experience in financial systems, including SAP and TM1 a plus.
