Senior Wireless System and Algorithm Design EngineerWould you like to join Apple's growing wireless silicon development team? Our wireless SOC organization is responsible for all aspects of wireless silicon development, addressing challenges from complex usages to demanding performances and reliabilities to enable emerging wireless applications and products. Our goal is to develop novel architectures and protocols, integrated systems, and algorithms using advanced technologies to introduce innovative products that evolve our lives.
In this technical role, you will be at the center of a silicon design group, responsible for physical layer and cross-layer algorithm designs for innovative wireless communication systems that demand low latency, very high data rates, high efficiency, reliability, and low power consumption. You will apply signal processing, communication and information theory, probability, and random processes techniques to architect and design innovative algorithms for receivers and transmitters.
Core Responsibilities: Design and simulate innovative wireless communication systems to enable emerging applications and wireless system products.Implement system models and investigate innovative algorithms for performance enhancements, design and validate them to allow performance sign-off and enable RTL development.Implement system models for the wireless communication system, addressing RF/circuit impairments. Design methods/algorithms to alleviate those impairments through calibration, pre-equalization, cancellation, and/or pre-distortion techniques.Define control procedures for physical layer hardware modules to achieve robust and optimal performance of the modem in congested radio environments with co-existing wireless communication systems.Collaborate with digital designers to realize these methods with power and area-efficient digital implementations.Work with firmware designers to realize these methods with high-efficiency software implementations, potentially with hardware acceleration.Bring up, test, characterize, and optimize real silicon in the lab.Minimum Qualifications: Extensive experience in designing and developing physical layer core algorithms, such as MIMO signal estimation and detection, channel estimation, equalization, coding theory, beamforming, timing recovery, frequency synchronization, and automatic gain control.Track record in applying innovative signal processing and communication theory techniques to resolve challenging problems in physical layer design for modern wireless communication systems.Deep understanding of communication theory, information theory, and signal processing related algorithms design.Strong analytical capability to develop best-in-class solutions in terms of performance, power, and area.Deep understanding of components/modules of wireless communication systems and the impairments from those components along with corresponding calibration and impairment reduction methods/algorithms.Algorithm development experience with hardware and firmware-friendly designs.Proficiency in C/C++ and Matlab for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation of the physical layer.Knowledge of existing protocols: 5G/LTE/WCDMA/GSM, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be, 802.11ad/ay, or Bluetooth/BLE.Preferred Qualifications: BS and 10+ years of relevant experience required. MS and PhD preferred.
Additional Requirements: At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range.
