ROGERCO, Inc. (ROGERCO) is an integrated technology and communications consultancy firm specializing in public affairs, public relations, marketing, branding, and crisis management. We are seeking a full-time Senior Writer/Editor to play an integral role in conceptualizing and developing compelling material to help our clients tell impactful and cohesive stories.
The Senior Writer/Editor will support the Naval Surface Warfare Center Code 103 Corporate Communications team in Dahlgren, VA. Responsibilities include developing and editing written products such as magazine and news articles, press releases, and fact sheets that clearly relay key messages for internal and external audiences. The Writer/Editor will also provide editorial guidance to subordinate organizations' communications staff on written news articles in accordance with AP style guidelines. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with superior editorial and fact-checking skills and should have an active SECRET security clearance or be eligible for an interim clearance, along with previous experience working with the federal government.
Responsibilities: Collaborate with others to create original concepts that result in effective and compelling internal and external communication. Write clear, concise, grammatically correct copy that is consistent with approved brand, voice, and style. Provide editorial expertise in producing catalogs, electronic newsletters, and magazine-type publications. Manage administrative requirements and requests for information. Proactively create action plans to target the correct audience and use sound editorial judgment to determine where communication gaps exist and how to close them. Perform final document quality assurance and quality control reviews on communication products prior to distribution to the public (e.g., press releases, informational brochures, briefings). Consult relevant information sources to obtain and verify background information. Develop outlines and drafts that meet client requirements and regulations. Edit copy to comply with in-house and AP style guides. Perform other duties as required. Local travel may be required. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, public affairs, or a related degree OR a minimum of six (6) years of related experience in editing documents in a military/engineering/technical/research, development, or testing environment. US Citizen. Active Secret Clearance. Proven ability to support communication programs and products, media relations programs, community relations, special events, and photography support. Experience in research, conducting interviews, writing, editing, and obtaining release/approval for articles, feature stories, news releases, and statements, including electronic, web-based, and hard copy material. Proficient in writing, formatting, editing, and maintaining a range of print and digital media. Knowledge of Section 508 compliance standards and how to create products that adhere to these standards. Thorough knowledge of AP Style. Exceptional writer and copy editor. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and self-motivation. Ability to function in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
