Basic Purpose
Provides comprehensive engineering design services for substation facilities and ensures the facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations. Provides leadership training and direction to fellow staff members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Develops economical technically feasible reliable substation physical and control designs. (10%)
• Serves as an expert to provide engineering solutions to engineering problems. (10%)
• Provides accurate engineering designs and products. Directs an engineering team for engineering and drawing productions. (20%)
• Provides accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified. (15%)
• Provides coordination and communication with other departments such that total project schedules and expenditures are maintained in accordance with commitments. (10%)
• Provides input for development of detailed project schedules and update project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned. (5%)
• Monitors project expenditures and practices cost control such that project commitments are met. (5%)
• Ensures quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as needed including coordination with construction forces and job site inspections. (5%)
• Assists and guides other departments in the solution of nonstandard or complex substation design problems. (5%)
• Assigns and reviews work of other department staff. (15%)
• Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies codes
and regulations applicable to position and company.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited school in engineering and 15 years industry experience as a practicing engineer and performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
• Comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge in substation/control engineering principals and knowledge of other phases of engineering.
• Economic analysis methods budgeting procedures and company policies rules and regulations.
• Utility engineering practices and procedures construction methods and material specifications.
Demonstrated skill such as:
• Directing coordinating and reviewing the work of a staff of engineers technicians and designers.
• Ability to prove judgment and solves unusual problems with a high level of independent decisionmaking.
