Works with City departments and external entities in the course of promoting and advancing sustainability programs for both the organization and the community. JOB SUMMARY Assists with implementation of sustainability programs and strategic planning initiatives, which include oversight of contractors or vendors commissioned for services, tracking and analyzing data and metrics, evaluation of existing programs, grant applications, and research of sustainability topics.Coordinates many of the City's waste diversion programs including handling customer service requests within the City's residential waste, recycling and compost collection program, providing direction to the city's contracted waste haulers, and tracking assets and billing for waste collection services for zero waste efforts at community events.Collaborates with inter-departmental staff on sustainability initiatives to establish sustainability as a core organizational value of the City, including providing education, training and tracking internal metrics for sustainability goals. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills.Develops outreach materials and creates content for weekly updates of various City communication channels (web, print, social media, etc.). Works closely with the Communications Department and requires exceptional written communication skills and attention to detail.Assists with support for the Community Sustainability Advisory Board through recordkeeping of Board minutes, preparation for meetings, and organization of Board-sponsored events.Engages the community with interaction with the public in representing the City at community events, increasing awareness of existing programs, and responding to questions and requests for program services.Work includes occasional evening and weekend hours. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Social Science, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field. Strong data analysis and data organizational skills. Two year's experience with sustainability initiatives strongly desired. Municipal government experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid driver's license with good driving record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. LANGUAGE SKILLS - Skill in interpreting, understanding, and following complex statutes, ordinances, regulations, standards, and guidelines. Skill in developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and procedures. Ability to write effective reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to interact and communicate with a variety of individuals and groups in an effective and efficient manner in person, over the telephone and via e-mail in a clear and concise manner. Ability to compile, organize, prepare and maintain an assortment of records, reports, documents and related information.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, & decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to coordinate, conduct, compute and analyze data relating to sustainability.
REASONING ABILITY - Ability to effectively resolve problems, conduct assessments, and make recommendations based on information.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Outstanding customer service and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Flexibility and the ability to work independently. Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail. MS Office with intermediate to advanced knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel.
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED - General office equipment, smartphone, computer/tablet, etc. Personal or city vehicle. Standard office software such as MS Office.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, talk, hear, and see. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work is primarily in an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to field and outdoor weather conditions.
