Overview The Sustainability Coordinator will be responsible for helping The Highlands work towards its goal of being carbon neutral by the year 2030 as outlined in our ForeverProject Master Plan. They will also develop green policies and initiatives that emphasize the proper use of environmental resources with a focus on emissions reduction and climate change advocacy. Additionally, the Sustainability Coordinator will support projects other departments are working on in regard to sustainability and our 2030 Master Plan. This is a Part-Time position, and entry-level. The Sustainability Coordinator will work alongside resort management, Operations, Marketing, Accounting, Food and Beverage, Lodging, SnowSports, Retail & Rental Departments, and our family of Boyne Resorts. This person takes initiative to get any and all tasks completed accurately, proficiently, and in a timely manner. The coordinator is responsible for the tracking, measurement, and adjustment of The Highlands's greenhouse gas calculations, ensuring departments are supported through changes and new implementations.
Responsibilities Lead in driving the strategy, direction, activities, and culture to address sustainability issues that align with and support business goals and the ForeverProject Master Plan.Work with other departments on completion of sustainability tasks by setting times, inviting participants, and leading sustainability meetings to gather ideas.Initiate, complete, and maintain a waste and energy audit for the mountain.Initiate and support/lead cross-functional implementation of short- and long-term projects to reduce The Highlands' carbon footprint.Monitor success and opportunities of sustainability programming, ensuring the resort meets the set targets. Adjust, as necessary.Be the point person for sustainability questions, comments, or concerns from Team Members or guests - Collect and provide an annual report to the NSAA Climate Challenge, including total emissions, emissions reduction projects completed, and climate advocacy accomplishments.Work with accounting to track energy usage and spending and keep up-to-date records.Organize sustainability-focused events for Team Members and guests.Attend weekly meetings with the other Boyne Sustainability Leads to discuss ongoing efforts at each resort and share ideas and challenges.Assist in the implementation of projects that reduce our emissions by assisting other departments.Contribute to the team effort by participating in Job Sharing, assuming responsibility for the cleanliness of the resort and the safety of guests and employees; participating in safety meetings; accepting diverse assignments; maintain a positive and friendly attitude and demeanor in all internal and external interactions.Additional responsibilities as assigned by your manager.Qualifications Required Qualifications (knowledge, skills, certifications, education, etc.) An associate's degree or equivalent.
Strong computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications (knowledge, skills, certifications, education, etc.) A background in environmental studies, sustainability, or similar field.
Experience with project management.
Familiarity with Ski Resorts.
Physical Demands (including but not limited to): Must be able to stand for 6-8 hours at a time, and lift up to 60 lbs. Additionally, while performing the duties of this Job, the Adventure Activities Guides are regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Must be able to work independently; will receive daily support.
Work Environment: Primarily inside, at a desk, sitting; however, movement around the resort on a regular basis will be necessary.
