We are currently seeking a Systems Engineering Specialist to join our team in Newport News, Virginia (US-VA), United States (US).

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Engineering Specialist to join our team. As a System Engineering Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with DOD regulations and requirements, identifying potential cyber risks and vulnerabilities, and improving the cybersecurity posture within our DOD environment. This position is located in Newport News, VA and will require daily onsite presence. This position will provide customer support within a Hybrid Agile Enterprise Environment. Candidate should be a "self-starter" with the ability to work independently with little to no oversight. The ability to research problems to develop, present, and implement full solutions after appropriate approval is imperative to the success of this project. The ability to work in a mixed stakeholder environment while maintaining fidelity of information is also required. Exceptional attention to detail and overall organizational abilities are crucial to the success of the project.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Manage day to day operations of High Performance Computing environment consisting of RHEL8/9 Servers, Windows Servers, and VEEAM Backup Systems.
Serve as the technical leader for system infrastructure projects to Plan, Deploy, and Harden Enterprise Services across multiple projects.
Ensure system compliance with Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) regulations, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and Vulnerability Management Programs.
Provide expert knowledge and support for all aspects of system and network configuration and management.
Participate in project planning and execution in a hybrid-agile environment, potentially assuming the role of Scrum Master as needed.
Analyze the IT environment to detect critical deficiencies, and recommend solutions for improvement.
Coordinate with other IT team members and stakeholders, ensuring the successful completion of projects on time and within budget.
Perform routine system maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
Document all system configurations, changes, and procedures to maintain an up-to-date knowledge base.
Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, enhancing their understanding and skills in system engineering and management.
Basic Qualifications:
Required Certificates:IAT II or higher certification
Linux operating system certificate or ability to obtain in 90 days
Minimum 5 years of combined experience in Planning, Deploying, and Hardening Linux Servers and applications.
Secret security clearance required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
Ability to obtain and/or currently active Top Secret clearance.
Familiarity with VEEAM Backup Systems, Melanox Switches, and Aruba Switches.
