Telecommunications Engineer

Details of the offer

Description: TEKsystems is looking for a Telecommunications Engineer to support our client for various Telecommunications initiatives.
These initiatives can vary, but some are BAU (Business as Usual) work/upgrades, and others are project based such as delivering fiber to all of the tower gateway base stations, substations, or even getting fiber into distribution Substations for ADMS technologies (Advanced Distribution Management Systems).
Basically there is a Multi Opco programs going on to install and replace aged DC power plant as it pertains to Telecomm systems within substations and Microwave/Wireless Shelters.
This position will be on the "Operations" not "Engineering" side, so the "Program/Projects" that are going on would be supporting them after they are complete, but also providing guidance/insight during the various phases of deployments.
This Telecomm Engineer will be a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to the specific Telecomm Projects they are supporting but are expected to be the technical SME for overseeing the Battery support across their various projects.
This would include, but not limited to Troubleshooting Alarms, Troubleshooting Batteries/Rectifiers, Performing Site Walks/Surveys, Evaluating current designs, updating current designs, updating standards and SOP (Standard operating procedures) for Telecomm DC Power (All of this would be a team effort), Coordinating with vendors across the build (Design Vendors, OEM's, Construction Vendors, etc), also coordinating across internal cross functional teams (UCOMM Engineering, Power Engineers, Electrical Distribution teams, Project Managers, etc), owning documentation within various databases, collecting and updating As-Builts, etc.
Everyday can be different depending on where the current support is needed.
This could be responding to various alarms, working with Engineering teams on project based work, overseeing/QCing builds from their general contractors, helping create SOP's, performing training, etc.
This will be a hybrid environment (Laid out in additional info below).
Need to be able to communicate across various levels of the organization, comfortable in the field.
Voltages vary, but should be familiar with 48 Volt DC, 120 Volt, or 20X AC to power to DC systems.
Again, all of this is powering telecom systems.
Skills: ac power, dc power systems, telecommunications systems, wireless equipment, wireless telecommunications, dwdm, fiber optic network, batteries, rectifiers, design analysis, troubleshooting Additional Skills & Qualifications: This position is a mixture of in office, field, and remote.
Current expectation is that resource is in field/office 3 days/week and right now are typically Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with Monday and Friday being remote (Could be in field more but no expectation to go into the office more.
Going to sites in the field counts as going into office).
For all site visits and field work the resource will be using their own vehicle but receive mileage reimbursement.
Right now, this work is associated to numerous OPCO's and they are very flexible on what office the resource sits out of.
Again, majority is going to be for the PA Market (very little alignment to MD & DE).
The resource will receive adequate training which will be given by current engineers who support the other markets.
Again, this resource really needs to have solid communication skills and the ability to build relationships with all types of vendors.
Does not need to have specific Telco experience within Utility, it can come from Communications customers as well.
Bulk of work is the understanding of battery sizing in accordance with IEEE standards.
Need to have solid knowledge of Batteries/Rectifiers, understanding of the AC requirements that go into that.
Very rarely is DC to DC converters, and different voltages for different products.
