The mission of Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) is to provide high quality, humane care for research and teaching animals at Indiana University Bloomington, as well as ensure compliance with federal laws and guidelines and campus policies related to animal use. We are looking to expand our veterinary staff team. Responsibilities include performing clinical rounds, communicating with research labs, maintaining animal health records, providing training and technical services, and assisting with colony health surveillance. Department-Specific Responsibilities Assists with providing animal health care to the animals on Bloomington campus. Assists with health surveillance of the colonies on campus, train laboratory staff on proper handling and techniques, provide technical service support, and other projects as assigned. Provides animal health care to animals used in research and teaching by performing clinical rounds, communicating with labs, and maintaining animal health records. Assists with health surveillance by collecting and processing samples. Provides training to laboratory staff on proper handling, dosing, and sample collection techniques. Provides technical service support to investigators. General Responsibilities Administers anesthesia to animals, under the direction of a veterinarian, and monitor animals' responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted. Prepares and administers medications, vaccines, serums, or treatments, as prescribed by veterinarians. Monitors animal health and observes for overt signs of disease and reports any changes to supervisor and veterinary staff. Cares for and monitor the condition of animals recovering from surgery. Performs euthanasia and disposes of remains and/or carcasses. Maintains controlled drug inventory and related log books. Performs laboratory tests on blood, urine, or feces, such as urinalyses or blood counts, to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems. Please apply online at .
