Duties and Responsibilities: Warehouse Operations Management: Coordinate and supervise the loading and unloading of products onto/from railroad cars, ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational guidelines.Oversee the scheduling and routing of incoming and outgoing shipments to maximize efficiency and minimize delays.Collaborate with Class I and short-line rail connections and partners to facilitate smooth communication and resolve any operational issues.Manage day-to-day warehouse operations with an ownership mindset for our 3PL partners; this includes managing relationships, and executing outlined workflow processes for seamless inventory transactions.Create a stable inventory environment by managing inventory control and proactively create processes that help set us up for future success.
Manage the key performance indicators (KPIs) and take corrective actions as necessary. Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of railroad operations staff, including supervisors and laborers.Conduct regular training sessions to ensure all team members are well-versed in safety protocols, equipment operation, and best practices.Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.Manage daily staff schedule in accordance to budget and/or business needs. Process Optimization: Continuously analyze and evaluate existing railroad operations processes to identify areas for improvement and efficiency enhancement.Develop and implement innovative strategies to streamline operations, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance productivity.Ensure standard process through effective use of standard operating procedures (SOPs). Safety and Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, protocols, and guidelines for railroad and trucking operations.Regularly inspect equipment and facilities to identify potential safety hazards and address them promptly.Collaborate with regulatory agencies and authorities to maintain compliance with all relevant industry standards.Assume role of Safety Committee Chair for operations you oversee. Communication and Coordination: Liaise with various departments, including procurement, inventory, and transportation, to align with overall business goals.Communicate effectively with railroad and trucking companies, suppliers, customers and internal team members to manage expectations and resolve any issues or delays.Prepare regular reports and presentations warehouse operations performance for senior management. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Applicable work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.10+ years of experience in warehouse operations management involving several railroad cars daily along with inbound and outbound trucking activity, receipt, putaway, replenishment, picking, loading, and cycle-counting for inventory control.Experience with Railroad preferred.Proficiency in using warehouse management systems (WMS) and other tools for scheduling, tracking, and reporting.High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.Flexibility to work irregular hours and adapt to changing operational needs.Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Excel, and Word Ability to operate various types of materials handling equipment including hand trucks, manual pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, order pickers, etc.Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of motivating and developing diverse teams.In-depth knowledge of railroad operations, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.Excellent problem-solving abilities and a data-driven mindset for process optimization.Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
