Position Purpose:
The position is responsible for medical management of an assigned caseload of patients. The position collaborates with the Chief Medical Director as described in the established protocol. Has operational responsibility on the primary care team. Position reports to the physician team leader responsible for primary care teams. The physician specialist will have a nurse assist in patient case management.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. Provides medical care to indigent primary care patients.
2. Provides consultation to the nurses and clinical staff.
3. Consults with the medical director regarding the work performance of nurse practitioners and nurses.
4. Consults, trains, or assists in training of medical students, interns, residents, nurse practitioners, and other related health professionals.
5. Coordinates medical care of assigned patients.
6. Consults with other staff physicians and para-medical personnel regarding medical management of patients and quality of medical and diagnostic work performed.
7. Confers with the medical director on management issues.
8. Confers on the planning and direction of the primary care team as it relates to the physician's specialty.
9. Participates in medical and services utilization audits, peer review, and quality assurance activities.
Requirements:
1. Current California Physician & Surgeon License.
2. Current DEA Certificate.
3. Current CPR Certification.
4. Ability to travel from site to site as needed.
5. Experience in working with clients and staff from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
