Academic Administrator (Director) - Educational Leadership Program (ELP) University of California, Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF04691 Recruitment Period Open June 21st, 2019 through Monday, Jul 15, 2019 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Description The Educational Leadership Program (ELP) is a self-supporting Ed.D. degree program, designed for working professionals to complete the degree in three years. ELP is committed to promoting innovative and change-oriented educational leaders. What distinguishes ELP from other leadership programs is its unique melding of theory, practice, and experiential learning. The program combines a commitment to PreK-16 expertise, access and equity, and rigorous student-focused teaching and learning. ELP's collaborative, cohort-based model embodies the theory that knowledge is constructed not imparted. Summary Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Education, this position will be responsible for three broad areas: course development, mentoring, testing, and training; strategic planning and development; and research coordination and improvement Course Development, Mentoring, Testing, and Training Develop, plan, prepare, and teach courses in ELP as the principal instructor or co-instructor. Mentor and advise current ELP students related to their research interests/independent studies as well as potential career opportunities. Oversee student testing including screening and qualifying exams. Strategic Planning and Development Coordinate and align actions and financial resources with ELP as well as assist in defining strategic goals of the program, including but not limited to, curriculum development, recruitment, admissions, and scholarships of students, faculty/instructor recruitment, and special events for students, alumni, and the community at large. Create, develop, and run programs that enhance the education experience of students as well as augment the training of recent Ed.D. graduates and postdoctoral scholars. Initiate and strengthen relationships with potential funding sources (federal and private funding) in order to support the research, operation, and expansion of ELP. Oversee the ELP operations budget, supporting, and facilitating the needs and activities of the program. Research Coordination and Improvement Develop and improve various strategies for educational leadership that can be implemented in the classroom and inform teaching educational leadership more broadly. Conduct applied or action research in an area related to education or about Ed.D. programs or Ed.D. students as well as remain abreast of cutting edge research in education by participating in conferences, workshops, and reading articles on related subject matter. Enhance research opportunities (dissertation projects) and pedagogical programs for students by initiating and coordinating collaborative and multidisciplinary projects within GSE&IS, across campus, and with organizations, and other academic institutions. QUALIFICATIONS : Minimum qualifications for the position are a doctorate in Education or a related field by date of hire Successful course development and project direction; knowledge of research and trends in educational leadership; practical and theoretical teaching/mentoring experience at the university level. Prior experience in higher education plus administrative experience in an education academic program is highly desirable. SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
