Position: Temporary Accounting Consultant We are seeking a seasoned Accounting Consultant to provide short-term support and expertise to enhance our accounting operations.
This position will focus on stabilizing and optimizing the accounting function after a period of significant change, ensuring that processes are both efficient and compliant.
The ideal candidate will work closely with stakeholders to identify gaps, streamline workflows, and help the finance team understand the bigger picture behind their responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities: Grant Budget Analysis Analyze budgetary and expenditure data related to a 3-year grant.
Identify spending trends, track variances, and ensure alignment with grant requirements.
Vendor and Service Provider Evaluation Conduct thorough assessments of vendor services to ensure alignment with the organization's needs and contractual terms.
Engage with stakeholders to clarify service needs, ensuring optimal use of resources and cost-effectiveness.
Identify and recommend adjustments to service levels or vendor contracts to better serve organizational goals.
Expense Allocation & Operational Support Review and refine current expense allocation practices across payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger functions.
Design and implement more efficient allocation processes where needed.
Provide ad-hoc operational support to the CFO and finance team, assisting with strategic financial projects.
Process Improvement & Internal Controls Assess and diagnose weaknesses in existing accounting processes, controls, and systems.
Propose and implement improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with relevant regulations.
Develop and formalize standard operating procedures (SOPs) to standardize key accounting functions.
Reporting & Communication Maintain regular communication with the CFO, providing updates on progress, addressing challenges, and identifying any additional resource needs.
Qualifications: Extensive experience in accounting, financial management, and process optimization.
Strong analytical abilities and a knack for solving complex problems.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Familiarity with grant management, particularly within the nonprofit sector.
Expertise in nonprofit accounting practices and regulatory requirements.
Proven track record in process improvement and implementing internal controls.
