Job Summary: This is a brief summary of overall assigned duties.

Job Classification: Department Manager

Job Description: This person provides for an ongoing program of activities designed to meet, in accordance with the service plan, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident.

Ability to coordinate and conduct meetings. Ability to be organized and efficient. Ability to meet deadlines. Basic computer skills. Ability to act as a role model in conduct and appearance. Responsibilities: Plans activity program to carry out the objectives of the facility as part of total resident care. Schedule monthly Resident Council meetings and record all notes and give to the Administrator. Create a monthly calendar of social events and activities. Perform and record monthly resident weights. Supervision and protection of residents during activities and compliance with safety regulations and policies. Coordinate the activities program with other services in the facility. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers when appropriate. Encourage resident participation in activities. Care and use of supplies and equipment. Physical Demands: Stands most of the day, pushes, pulls, bends, and lifts. Working Conditions: Well-lighted and well-ventilated rooms. Exposed to odors and personality peculiarities of the aged. May have to handle emotional disturbances. Is required to be on constant alert for possible injuries to residents. Personal Specifications: Minimum education requirements include a high school diploma or its equivalent. Aptitude and some training in Arts and Crafts. Ability to plan and organize recreational activities. Must have a sincere desire to work with the elderly. Must have an understanding of social, psychological and recreational needs of the elderly and must be able to plan and organize activities geared to these needs. Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm while being able to handle residents based on whatever maturity level that they are currently functioning on.
