Job SummaryBluegrass, Old-Time, and Country Music Studies at East Tennessee State University is seeking enthusiastic and experienced colleagues to become part of our part-time instruction team. The program serves primarily undergraduate majors and minors focused on bluegrass, old-time, country, and/or Celtic music studies. Areas of teaching include:
Private instruction on:GuitarBanjoFiddleMandolinBassResophonic GuitarSteel GuitarElectric GuitarDrumsCeltic InstrumentsHistory classes in these traditional genres and American roots musicsMusic theory in these genresRecording technology and live sound reinforcementIndustry classes like marketing, public relations, booking, and managementBand and performance classesCareer-oriented seminarsInstrument maintenance and repair classesSongwritingArtistry/creativity coursesAdjunct Professors with real-world expertise are valuable to the student experience at ETSU. They are an important part of the learning community within our program and the institution. Part of the Department of Appalachian Studies at ETSU, the Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Country Music Studies is the oldest and largest program of its kind at any four-year institution.

Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesProfessional-level ability on the instrument or voice, and ability to guide students from beginning through advanced levels; excellent teaching skills; extensive teaching experience; availability to be on ETSU campus in Johnson City, TN at least 1-2 days a week during Spring (Late January – Early May) and/or Fall (Late August – Early December) semesters.
Required QualificationsDocumented professional-level experience in the applicant's field (i.e., toured with a professional band, hired at top-level camps, experience teaching in higher education, work as a luthier, produced professional recordings, delivered professional workshops, etc.).
Preferred QualificationsFormal academic degrees or qualifications in related fields are advantageous. Bachelor's, master's, or other higher education degrees or certificates. Experience teaching in higher education.
Salary$700-$900 per credit-hour, per semester, depending on qualifications.
