The Prince William County Department of Social Services, Customer Support and Services (CSS) Division is looking for a bilingual (English/Spanish) administrative specialist to deliver information and assistance to our customers.
The successful candidate will work on the Customer Response Team (CRT) to provide information and resources to customers, both on the phone and in the office.
We seek an individual who can understand and communicate complex information with patience and respect, pay strong attention to detail, and can work in a fast-paced environment that often requires multi-tasking.
They must be able to work both independently and collaborate with team members to ensure that we provide excellent service to customers and staff.
Many of our customers have limited English proficiency, with Spanish as their primary language, so it is important that our candidate is fluent in both English and Spanish (listening, speaking, reading, writing.)
The successful candidate must pass a language proficiency test to qualify for employment and to receive additional compensation.
ABOUT THIS ROLE:
The ideal candidate will have strong computer skills, including proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel.
They should be able to multitask and manage requests from various individuals and departments.
A passion for communication and effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Typical tasks:
* Assist customers who are applying for or renewing public benefits (SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, etc.
)
* Answer customer questions about application processes.
* Research cases and provide appropriate information to relevant parties.
* Scan documents and enter data into case management systems: LaserFiche, SPIDER and VaCMS.
* Perform other administrative tasks related to general office functions.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Prince William Department of Social Services has a staff of over 400 and serves the community through adult and child-welfare programs, public benefits distribution, and homeless prevention services.
We annually serve over 100,000 people with the goal of creating self-sufficiency and economic stability.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or G.E.D.
and 2 years of related experience.
PREFERENCES:
* Professional level experience providing customer service.
* Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel
* Experience using Virginia Case Management Software (VaCMS) or similar case management software.
* Bilingual (English/Spanish)
WORK SCHEDULE: 37.5 hours/week, Monday - Friday
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
* All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
* Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services and DMV background checks.
* Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Dept of Social Services.

* Staff in this position cannot perform their job by teleworking.
