Position SummaryThis Administrative Support Coordinator I in the Department of Chicana/o Studies has direct office coordination responsibilities and provides administrative support for the faculty. This work is supervised by the Department Chair and is carried out within the policies set by the university, the department, and the chair. Responsibilities include facilitating budgetary and fiscal matters, assisting with the faculty RTP process, course scheduling, processing faculty appointments, interpreting academic and administrative regulations and policies, gathering data, assisting committees, hiring and supervising student employees, and organizing events. Front office work requires interaction with students and members of the community in person and on the telephone.This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.Department SummaryThe Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies (CCS) focuses on the nation's fast-growing ethnic group (Chicanas/os | Latinas/os) as well as the interplay of culture, politics, economics, and society in the dynamic U.S.-Mexican border region. The department nurtures and oversees the development of knowledge about Chicano/Latino populations and the border region through original scholarship on the part of its faculty and students. It recognizes women and gender-based issues as integral to a Chicana/o studies program.The department has nine full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members, five part-time faculty, a work study student, and a student assistant. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly lean new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.Key QualificationsProficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.Bilingual in the Spanish language is preferred.Experience in work settings which support diversity, equity, and inclusion.Experience working with budgets.Lead and/or supervisory experience is preferred.Experience creating flyers and brochures.Experience coordinating administrative support functions for a group.Experience with data entry and updating database records.Experience working at special events.Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,681 per month.Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.San Diego State University offers a rich benefits package that constitutes a major portion of total compensation.
