Advance Practice Provider (Ft) Day Neurosurgery Dept - New Brunswick

Job Overview: RWJBH is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for the 24 hour Neurosurgery department. This is a full time day, hospital based-position. The APP is responsible for performing duties independently following established and standardized procedures and methods referring questionable situations to physicians. The APP provides primary health care through assessment, diagnosis, clinical judgment and management to restore, maintain and improve the health status of patients. In addition, the APP is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.
Qualifications: Current NJ APN/PA license requiredNCCPA certification requiredCDS requiredDEA requiredRN requiredBLS requiredACLS requiredNP candidates must be FNP certified with acute care experience due to the pediatric population on the serviceIdeal candidate would have 3-5 years of inpatient or acute patient care experience in neurosurgery with a desire for shift workMust be willing to become proficient at all inpatient bedside neurosurgical proceduresSurgical first assisting experience is also preferredAPN must have RNFA certification in order to work in the operating roomWill consider the right new graduate APPScheduling Requirements: Full TimeDay40 hoursVariable shift including days, nights, evenings, holiday, and weekend rotationEssential Functions: ICU and floor patient roundingNeurosurgical bedside proceduresAttending and participation in multidisciplinary roundsCovering Neurosurgical service phone for consults and trauma callsUpdating patients and family regarding plans of careGoals of care discussionsSurgical first assistingAdministers injections, immunizations and oral medications, starts IVAssists physician by recording patient progress notes, issuing diagnostic orders, and transcribing ordersAssists with various counseling and education functionsBilling for patient services based on CMS and NJ State Board RegulationsDemonstrates satisfactory knowledge and judgment to provide appropriate care for patientsDevelops plan of care for patients in coordination with multidisciplinary team and completes appropriate reports to physicians and familyDocuments and maintains patient records of services provided according to facility and nursing standardsEstablishes a collaborative relationship with other medical providersExamines patients to determine presence of illness, utilizing physical findings, laboratory results, medical history, ascertains nature and extent of illness and prescribes treatments as indicatedInterviews, instructs and advises patients regarding health and illness preventionInstructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructionsIssues prescriptions to patients based on Federal & State RegulationsOrders and reviews appropriate laboratory and diagnostic proceduresParticipates in the development of protocolsPerforms and obtains a completed medical history and physical data on patients with appropriate documentation and findingsPerforms independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situationsProvides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visitsResponsible for coordinating nursing and training programs on compliance for policies such as HIPAA, OSHA, Code of ConductResponsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practiceReviews and audits charts routinelySutures wounds, incises and drains wounds, repairs lacerationsWorks in collaboration with a physician to diagnose conditions as necessaryPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
