The Advisor, Communications and Influencing, drives the internal and external communications strategy for the Department of Education and Child Protection (DECP) to ensure that our work is effectively shared with relevant stakeholders and audiences through appropriate platforms. The Advisor will be responsible for developing departmental communications products, advising project teams on internal and USG communications guidelines, creating briefs for fundraising purposes, advancing our thought leadership strategy through conferences and webinars, and supporting proposals. The Advisor will work collaboratively with the Partnerships and Philanthropy team, as well as the Marketing, Communications, and Fundraising teams.
The Advisor, Communications and Influencing, reports to the Managing Director of Research, Evidence, and Learning, and works closely with DECP's cluster leaders to identify priority projects and strategic areas with communication needs.
What You'll Be Doing (Essential Duties) Development of communications products (60%)Lead the development of project-specific and sub-team-specific briefs, newsletters, and content for the Partnerships and Philanthropy team that effectively communicate the story of our programs and their impact.Lead or support the communications strategy for high priority projects as identified by the SMT, based on project needsCoordinate and review the graphic design, development of companion pieces, and external communications.Ensure products are grammatically correct; flow logically and present information clearly and concisely; are suited to audience's level of technical and program knowledge; and are properly branded.Determine the most appropriate content to present at booths at priority Conferences (CIES, USAID GEC among others) and develop it.Develop and disseminate briefs highlighting Save the Children's presence at priority conferences such as CIES.Serve as a point of reference for project teams for compliance with internal and external (specifically USG) communication protocols.Internal and external communications strategy of DECP (25%)Develop DECP's internal and external communication strategy on a yearly basis determining the right avenues and timings to push content and share what we do.Liaise with the Partnerships and Philanthropy (P & P) and Marketing & Fundraising (MCF) teams to understand their priorities and propose strategies to proactively respond to their needs with DECP content.Propose to the DECP SMT the priority topics that we want to share internally and externally each year and organize at least three yearly webinars/meetings around these.Develop capacity statements for DECP's sub-teams and subsectors.Edit and proofread proposals including checking for clarity and precision and grammar and spelling.Ensure brand consistency and strategic messaging in proposals.Required Qualifications Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience.Strong professional writing skills with proven ability to write compelling content that engages different types of audiences. Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate program and research technical information to audiences with varying degrees of technical sophistication.Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals, fundraisers, and teams at all levels, both internally and externally.Attention to detail and the ability to translate complex program and research language into donor-friendly content.Ability to work on several projects simultaneously with strong time management skills.Proven successful planning and management of professional events, trainings, meetings and/or workshops.Proven experience synthesizing content into technical briefers, newsletters and others, based on other reports or information.Professional proficiency in MS Office suite.Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.Preferred Qualifications Prior experience developing communication products for USAID-funded programs, including contracts, is highly desirable.Experience supporting communications products in collaboration with colleagues outside the US.Experience with proposal development.Proficiency in Spanish, French, or Arabic.Compensation Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:
Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $84,150 – $94,050 base salary.Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $76,500 – $85,500 base salary.Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $68,850 – $76,950 base salary.The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record.
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location. Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.
