Precollege Advisor TRIO Upward Bound Office of Minority Student Affairs The Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign is accepting applications for Precollege Advisors for TRIO Upward Bound (1020186) and TRIO Talent Search (1030173). As critical positions in the office, the Precollege Advisors will work alongside a team of professionals that are improving the retention, success, and graduation rates for low-income, first generation and/or academically underserved precollege students. Job Summary
The Precollege Advisor is responsible for assisting with the implementation of the TRIO Upward Bound program in compliance with the grant proposal, federal legislation, regulations, and university policies. Additional responsibilities include the development, implementation, and evaluation of precollege services that increase achievement, persistence, and graduation rates for participants. Finally, this position will help ensure the attainment and reporting of the program's objectives and outcome. Duties & Responsibilities
(60%) ADVISING
Assist the Director in implementing the Plan of Operation and Evaluation for the approved TRIO Upward Bound program. Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative, responsive, and empirically grounded academic and enrichment services for participants that meet the TRIO Upward Bound program objectives. Identify students experiencing academic challenges and develop appropriate interventions to bolster their academic success. Assist in monitoring participants' academic progress from their date of admission through their college graduation. Apply an appropriate level of professional judgment, discretion, and autonomy to effectively deliver services to participants and their parents or guardians. Schedule college readiness meetings with Seniors in the fall and Juniors in spring to complete the Precollege roadmap. Plan test prep activities to prepare students for college entrance examinations. Assist in maintaining documentation of the program's services for the Annual Performance Report. Maintain accurate, audit-ready program records and service delivery reports as requested. Keep abreast of current trends related to precollege and collegiate success by participating in professional organizations (e.g., state, regional, and national TRIO associations). Assist in meeting operational needs by performing other duties including, but not be limited to instruction, writing, presenting, and consulting activities. Gather grades quarterly from students and by semester from target schools. Develop, maintain, and update student's action plans. (30 %) OUTREACH
Coordinate high school visits with target schools to maintain ongoing communication with students and ensure delivery of services. Partner with TRIO Talent Search, TRIO Student Support Services, and other appropriate agencies to provide coordinated service for participants. Plan recruitment events with target schools, community partners, AVID classes, and other college prep programs Assist with staff recruiting and selecting. Assist with planning major department activities. Periodic evening and weekend duties are required. Coordinate student college tours and assist with student travel. Built relationships with campus and community partners. (5 %) SUPERVISION
Assist with supervising TRIO Upward Bound hourly employees during summer and academic year. Coordinate the Prep 4 tutoring schedule. Assists with staff onboarding, training, professional development, and evaluation. Serves as a coach to assist hourly staff in meeting performance goals. (5 %) OTHER GENERAL DUTIES
Assist with the data entry, filing, and organization of student files and information. Participate in staff meetings, department and campus committees, and other meetings as assigned. Assist in pursuing additional grant opportunities to meet students' needs. Physical Demands

Travel Requirements
20% Regular visits to local high schools for recruitment and service delivery, must transport minors for deliverables and travel with group for activities, college visits, etc. Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: A bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or a discipline appropriate for providing excellent pre-college services to students participating in a federal TRIO program through the US Department of Education is required. Required Experience: A minimum of two years of experience working with pre-college students (e.g., student programming, counseling, or teaching). At least two years of experience designing, implementing, or overseeing pre-college advising, outreach, or student support programs. A minimum of two years of experience working with students from diverse backgrounds (i.e., first generation, low-income, TRIO, or Gear Up). Supervisory experience is required. Experience working with public school personnel and community agency staff who serve students.

Required: A valid driver's license is required.
Regular in person visits to local high schools, are required in addition to group transport in University vehicles of minors as a part of this position. Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education:
A master's degree in education, counseling, or a discipline appropriate for administering a federal TRIO program through the US Department of Education is required.
Preferred Experience:
Three to five years of relevant work experience. Experience working for a TRIO program. Experience successfully matriculating in higher education as a first- generation and/or low-income student. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to think clearly, creatively, and solve problems proactively. Excellent communication and administrative skills. Ability to work effectively individually and collaboratively. Ability to manage competing priorities successfully. Ability to advise, mentor, and coach students successfully. Ability to design and implement successful educational programs. Must be student-centered and service oriented. Must have experience working with Microsoft Office Suite and Publisher.

Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 11/15/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Salary: $50,000.00 and includes an excellent benefits package.
