Job Description:MUST HAVE ACTIVE ALASKA LICENSEPosition Summary The Clinical Dietitian position functions within the Medical Nutrition Services department and Community Wellness Team throughout SEARHC's consortium.
Acts as a team member throughout the consortium on a wide variety of nutritional needs.
This position serves as part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide patient care that is integrated, compatible with the patient-focused medical goals and culturally appropriate in accordance with SEARHC's strategic goals.
Performs in a professional manner and respects confidentiality and demonstrates qualities endorsed by following the seven Standards for Service Excellence within SEARHC.Position ComplexitiesRequired to make daily decisions on nutritional management about a wide range of clinical problems for both inpatients and outpatients.
This necessitates keeping up to date in all clinical areas to manage daily problems as well as on call.
Complex problems may require literature searches, consultation with medical staff, other dietitians, as well as other health professionals to determine a management plan.
They must prioritize their time within the constraints of food service, short term admissions and coordination of nutritional care with other members of the health care team.
Responsible for maintaining and applying current scientific knowledge about food and nutrition to individuals and groups in states of health and disease to promote optimal health outcomes within the social, economic and cultural context of the Alaska Native/American Indian population in accordance with SEARHC's primary objectives and the policies and procedures of the medical nutrition services department.
Must translate complex regulations from the Joint Commission (TJC) and state/federal standards into everyday practice.
Provides counseling for patients and/or other caregivers on nutritional principles, dietary plans, and food selections taking into account age-specific, cultural, and ethnic requests.
Participates in physician, hospital nutrition services, and health care interdisciplinary teams and serves as the consultant on nutritional care.Accountabilities•mbulatory Medical Nutrition TherapyServes on and works closely with the multidisciplinary ambulatory healthcare team to provide individual or group nutrition screening, assessment, diagnosis, education, intervention, monitoring and evaluation using the Nutrition Care Process for ambulatory patients.
Document nutrition care provided using established departmental protocol in patient's medical record including relevant coding.•Inpatient Medical Nutrition TherapyConduct nutrition screening, assessment, diagnosis, education, intervention, monitoring and evaluation using the Nutrition Care Process for all hospitalized patients at all levels of care and age.
Document nutrition care provided using established departmental protocol in patient's medical record.•Long Term Care Works closely with the multidisciplinary long-term care team to provide nutrition guidance as well as individual assessments, diagnosis, education, intervention, monitoring and evaluation using the Nutrition Care Process for residents.
Document nutrition care provided using established protocols in patient's resident's record.•Hospital Nutrition Services Work closely with the Hospital Nutrition Services' staff to clarify or communicate patient diet orders, food preferences, menu choices and formula needs.
Complete menu revisions, modifications and nutrient analysis of inpatient menus.•Team Membership Serves as a member of the Diabetes Team and Patient Care Conference when patient workload permits.
Provides department leave and on-call coverage in collaboration with the Supervising Dietitian.
Assists with teaching the diabetes prevention program, be involved with the community events and facilities, and other activities that promote good nutrition.Provides weight loss assessment and bariatric surgery assessments and follow up in SEARHC's program and supports its patients throughout the consortium.
Provides nutritional education or information via community health fairs and other outreach arenas when requested and/or needed.Other duties as assigned by the Supervising Dietitian and/or Division Director or VPBaseline QualificationsEducation/Experience•Bachelor's Degree from school whose Nutrition, Dietetic, Institutional Management Programs is accredited by Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and completion of an approved dietetic internship program.•Two years' experience as a clinical dietitian is preferred.License/Certification•Dietetic Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensure from the State of Alaska, Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development, Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing required.•Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) DesirableKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of•dvanced level of medical nutrition therapy and clinical knowledge.•Working level of computer knowledge.•Some knowledge of human behavior and techniques for effective behavior change.Skills in•Clinical nutrition services: screening, assessment, diagnosis, education, intervention, monitoring and evaluation using the Nutrition Care Process for patients at all levels of care and age.•Skills in education, counseling, and teaching.•Competent using basic computer software: Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Resource Patient Management System (RPMS) or other electronic medical record charting software.Ability to•The ability to work with other staff members: the Hospital Nutrition staff as well as other healthcare professionals: physicians, nurses, Ward Clerks and other diabetes team members.•The ability to function independently on assigned patient care units.•The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form to patients, public, hospital and medical staff, and physicians.Position Urgency:NormalShifts:M-F 8am-4:30pm; on call on weekendsState License Details:Must Be Currently ActiveMinimum Years of Experience:Less than 1 yearMinimum Guaranteed Hours:No GuaranteeSpecialty Type:Health SciencesSub Specialty:DieticianGeneral Certifications:LPCLCSWBilingual:NoEMR Used:CernerHoliday Coverage Required:No
