This role in summary

Whirlpool is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Analyst Human Factors Engineer opening to join our Design organization. This in-person role is based at our Benton Harbor, MI Design Studio.

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Analyst Human Factors Engineer to join our Perceived Quality team. This role will focus on optimizing the usability and ergonomics of our home appliance portfolio. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring our products meet the highest standards of user experience and perceived quality. As an Analyst, you will lead human factors research, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and provide expert guidance to enhance product design and functionality.

Your responsibilities will include

Design:
Work with product designers and engineers to incorporate HFE principles into product designs
Support design implementation by applying a Human-Centered approach to design
Review product design and provide feedback to ensure ease of use for large and small appliances
Optimize physical aspects of product design to ensure compliance with ergonomic standards, support comfortable and easy use, and reduce errors and increase satisfaction
Actively incorporate feedback from user testing into the design of products.

Research:
Support planning and execution of HFE usability testing to evaluate product prototypes and final designs
Assist in conducting HFE research and structured usability testing to understand consumer needs, behaviors, and abilities
Collect and analyze user behavior, preferences, and feedback to identify areas for design improvement

Ergonomics:
Proficient subject matter expert and technical lead in HFE responsible for guiding application of HFE principles to home appliances
Conduct product reviews to assess how products can improve comfort, usability, and performance
Analyze physical, cognitive, and ergonomic principles and their impact on user interactions

Strategy:
Ensure that project plans, processes and activities address human factors activities and requirements
Assist cross-functional teams in understanding HFE requirements and developing solutions
Build a collaborative working relationship with key process partners to ensure HFE principles are integrated with projects and design solutions
Support the creation and maintenance of roadmaps for HFE design and technology application
Assist in researching the latest trends for product innovation and stay informed on industry developments

Minimum requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, User Experience, Psychology or Design
3+ years of professional experience in human factors engineering or usability testing
2+ years of experience leading human factors research and applying findings to product design
2+ years of working with human factors research methods and ergonomic assessment techniques 

Preferred skills and experiences

Experience with usability testing tools
Previous experience in consumer goods 
Strong decision-making abilities, self-motivation, self-directed
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to facilitate communication across different disciplines
Strong project management/planning skills with ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights
Proficiency in relevant software tools and technologies
