We are looking for a talented Animal Care Technician with laboratory animal research experience to support on weekends.

Role Responsibilities: Perform routine animal husbandry tasks including cleaning, watering, feeding, and grooming of laboratory animals per recommended guidelines and regulations.
Observe animals routinely.
Report health concerns or abnormalities to the Veterinary staff promptly.
Complete all required documentation completely and contemporaneously.
Maintain documentation, reports, and logs including: animal identification cards and inventory records, room environment reports, environmental enrichment logs, and cage washing and/or autoclaving logs.
Perform other duties as requested or assigned by the vivarium manager.
Perform euthanasia on rodents under the direction of the Veterinarian Staff.
Clean and maintain animal care areas by scrubbing down the ceilings, walls, and floors at prescribed intervals following departmental procedures.
Key Qualifications: Working knowledge of hygienic principles and basic animal husbandry.
Applies specialized knowledge of animal husbandry procedures to ensure that research animals are being cared for in accordance with NIH, OSHA, USDA, and AWA guidelines and regulations.
Applies knowledge of individual facility SOPs to ensure that they are being properly implemented.
Skill in providing humane care and maintenance to several species of animals.
Skill in reading English and numbers to be able to follow instructions, maintain records and identify specific animals.
Ability to work in an animal research environment which requires continuous contact with animals.
Ability to lift up to 50-pound bags of feed, bedding or animals.
Ability to push up to 300-pound cage racks.
Ability to understand established guidelines for humane care and welfare of laboratory animals as described by "Guide for The Care and Use of Laboratory Animals".
Ability to euthanize mice using CO2 chambers.
Must be able to follow the procedures for euthanasia including the use of the CO2 chamber, as well as be able to ascertain that death has occurred.
Basic computer skills to enter animal health reports in departmental database.
Available to work weekends Preferred Qualifications: Current Assistant Laboratory Animal Technologist (ALAT) certification.
NHP experience.
At least 2 years of experience in the research laboratory animal medicine.
Pay Range:
For individuals hired to work in California, Science is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role.
We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on geo-located salary bands.
The base salary range for this full-time position is $31- $40 per hour + equity + benefits.
Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
