Purpose: Lincoln University of Missouri, Jefferson City is seeking a highly motivated, creative individual to apply for an Animal Science Technician (I or II) position with an emphasis of small ruminant production, breeding and genetics, laboratory, and data management. This position will assist the principal investigators to manage or conduct research projects that benefit small ruminant industry, sustainability and profitability in the state and region by optimizing animal selection, genetic improvement, and productivity. This is a 12-month full time employment, full benefit-eligible, 100% research associate position.
Essential Job Functions: Assist, conduct, and manage animal breeding and genetic selection in small ruminant livestock. Maintain laboratory facilities, field lab supplies, and operate equipment, test machine or tools. Collect animal blood, tissue, forage, feed, fecal or parasite samples for analysis. Collect, file, and maintain animal breeding and production records, and biological specimens. Prepare animal experimentation, field work scheduling, data and lab analysis. Supervise graduate, undergraduate workers or other participants in lab or field work activities. Write field data summary, lab reports, and technical presentations. Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Participate in university's faculty, staff, and committee service activity. Any other duties as assigned by supervisors. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in agriculture, animal science, or biology related field is required. Master's degree and work experience in animal production, field and laboratory preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics: Strong organizational, writing, and oral communication skills. Manage animal records, field data filing, and animal experimentation protocol. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and other programs. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Possess MO driver's license and operate farm facilities. Physical Demands: Work tasks such as lifting or carrying objects (40lbs). Small livestock restraining and handling. Possible exposure to animal waste, allergens, and zoonotic agents. This is a 12-month fixed term position, effective from the date of employment. Renewal on an annual basis is contingent upon job performance and funding availability.
