Program: The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center Coeur d'Alene
Dept. Head: Aquatics Manager
Reports to: Aquatic Lead Supervisor
Position Summary:The Aquatic Lead will assist in planning, supervising, and implementing activities in the Aquatic Department and may be required to lifeguard and teach. Attendance at all in-service training is required. Duties and Responsibilities:Supervise aquatic staff, including instructors and lifeguards, as assigned. Hands-on lifeguarding and assisting other aquatic instructional programs as assigned.Supervise swim instructors and monitor swim lessons. Hands-on teaching and assisting other aquatic instructional programs as assigned.Oversee the day-to-day operations of the swim lesson programs as directed by the Aquatics Manager, Safety Coordinator, and Activities Coordinator.Oversee the day-to-day operations of the aquatic programs and facilities, including special events as directed by the Aquatics Manager, Safety Coordinator, and Activities Coordinator.Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees.Assist in training and instruction of recommended TSA Aquatic staff for Instructor-level Certifications.Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.Provide first aid, rescue breathing, and CPR when needed.Maintain and review records and reports as assigned.Inspect and supervise staff cleaning and maintenance of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, and other areas as assigned.Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients, and members are given prompt and courteous service.Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving.Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers in person and over the phone.See that Liability injuries are reported timely and according to procedure.Maintain a safe working environment. Report all harmful problems with facilities to the Aquatic Manager.Must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and exhibit a professional appearance at all times while on duty.Other aquatic assignments as required.General Qualifications and Proficiencies:18 years of age, preferableMust be able to read, write, and communicate in EnglishMust be able to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shiftsMust attend 50% or more of Aquatic Lead meetingsExperience working with the public.Demonstrate the ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, and members.One year prior experience as a head lifeguard, Lifeguard II, or equivalent, is highly desirable.Must have excellent computer skills; with working experience with Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department, as well as TSA.Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of the Center and TSA.Must have prior to start of employment and maintain current certifications.American Red Cross Lifeguard certificationAmerican Red Cross Water Park Lifeguard certificationAmerican Red Cross Lifeguard Management certification within nine months of hireAmerican Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within nine months of hireAmerican Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification to include AEDAmerican Red Cross Oxygen Administration certificationAmerican Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens within 90 days of hireOther preferred skills and certifications include:CPO certificationEmergency Response or other advanced first aid is desirable.Physical Requirements:Must maintain a minimum fitness level to be able to accomplish the following:300-yard swim in less than 15 minutesTread water for 2 minutes without the use of handsMust be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time while always remaining alert.The position requires proficient swimming ability and endurance.Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of all aquatic areas.Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. A qualified person with a disability may request a modification or adjustment to the job or work environment in order to meet the physical requirements of the position.
