American Income Life is seeking to fill a Jr Underwriter position for their Underwriting department located in Waco, TX.
No experience required.
Will train.
Hours: Monday - Friday with standard work hours due to system limitations with ability to work remote, in office, or telecommute.
Job Summary The Jr Underwriter is responsible for screening life insurance applications for selection of risks rendering either an issue standard, rate, or reject disposition with the guidance of written guidelines.
The Jr Underwriter will handle the implementation of underwriting policies and procedures related to the processing of new business and underwriting processes as related to other department processes.
All duties require identification of medical terminology, identification of prescription medications, use of the Swiss Re Underwriting manual, and evaluation of MIB, motor vehicle records, saliva test lab results and phone calls.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities Screen life insurance applications for selection of risks rendering an issue standard, rate, or decline disposition with the guidance of an underwriter or written guidelines. Implement underwriting policies and procedures related to the processing of new business. Implement medical guidelines using the Swiss Re Underwriting manual and AIL company guidelines. Interpret and report MIB codes. Review and evaluate results of oral saliva tests. Review and evaluate results of agent verification calls and other underwriting phone calls. Review and evaluate motor vehicle records (MVRs) Review and evaluate prescription histories to determine associated health conditions. Implement underwriting processes as related to other department processes. Assist with other underwriting areas as deemed necessary by department management. Progression to Underwriter I will occur upon release from training on all new business processes, APSs, exams, and trial applications. Required Skills
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Critical thinking skills required on a daily basis Self-motivation with strong decision making, analytical, and time management skills Ability to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment and meet productivity and quality standards Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office and the ability to work with multiple systems Excellent verbal and written communication skills A combination of experience and education will be considered on an individual basis Education & Work Experience required: Some college coursework or bachelor's degree preferred, however will consider 2-5 years life insurance industry experience in lieu of degree. LOMA 280/281 LOMA 290/291 required within 1 year after the start date; pursuit of FLMI preferred, Other industry courses will be considered. LOMA Underwriting (UND) required 1 year after the start date. Medical Terminology required 1 year after the start date. A combination of experience and education will be considered.
