This is a Large Area Sales Leadership Role with second line management over several Regional Sales Directors (who lead Territory Business Managers / field sales reps) The area of responsibility is the West half of US. (west of the Mississippi plus IN, MI, but not LS, AK) This position requires to be near a major airport. The Area Sales Director (ASD) is primarily responsible for executing the Therapeutics sales strategy, ensuring the team consistently achieves sales targets and outperforms the competition. The ASD serves on the Sales Leadership Team and reports to the Vice-President of Sales. Essential duties and responsibilities Major duties Description Sales Leadership • Responsible for meeting and exceeding sales goals through the execution of key sales initiatives. • Provide leadership to the Field Sales Team by demonstrating Merz values/operating norms and executing sales strategies consistent with the organization's goals and focus. • Consistently demonstrate good business acumen by communicating and executing key product selling strategies. • Provide coaching, development, and leadership to the Regional Sales Directors and TBMs. • Meet key employee retention objectives and create a rewarding, accountable sales culture that identifies, develops, and retains motivated, high performing employees. • Develop and maintain relationships with decision makers and influencers in key institutions and practices across the country. • Establish and maintain patient advocacy and professional society relationships that are important to your sales area. • Ensure fair, objective and consistent resolution of HR, compliance, or performance- related issues by utilizing Human Resources and Compliance guidance. Sales Planning • Monitor and understand the market and competition by analyzing sales results, trends, and opportunities in your Area. • Establish and execute a comprehensive business plan which aligns business and key products brand strategies with current market conditions to drive sales results. • Manage budget and review budget reports on a monthly basis and taking action to control costs if required. • Partner with subject matter experts to leverage data and reports, maximizing targeting efforts and execution of pull-through strategies. Cross-Functional Collaboration • Partner with Marketing, Market Access and other Sales Areas to drive performance and to accomplish market share and sales objectives; and to drive profitable and sustainable growth. • Collaborate as appropriate with Medical Affairs colleagues to support internal and external stakeholders' educational needs. • Create and maintain a collaborative work environment that promotes increased partnership among all cross-functional members to achieve effective and efficient coverage of appropriate customer accounts. • Partner with Human Resources to hire, develop, and maintain a high performing, outcomes-focused sales team, whose skills, knowledge, and abilities continually evolve to meet future needs. Maintain compliance with Merz promotional and commercial policies • Ensure field team demonstrates professional, compliant and ethical behavior during all customer interactions. • Certify that sales team completes all administrative requirements within established timeframes. Demonstrate Merz's values and operating norms • Values: commitment to customers and colleagues, deliver trusted results, persist in innovation • Operating Norms: assume positive intent, collaborate cross-functionally, obligation to engage Job related qualifications/skills Education - Bachelor's degree Required - Master's degree Preferred Professional experience - 5 years of specialty pharmaceutical/biotech sales management experience Required - 10 years Hospital and/or sales experience Required - Buy and Bill injectable experience Preferred Knowledge, skills and abilities (incl. languages) - Proven and documented track record of meeting or exceeding sales management goals/objectives. Required - Demonstrated high quality communication and interpersonal skills. Required - Must possess excellent analytical skills. Required - Proficient computer skills (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) Required - Significant travel required (70%). Overnight travel will be required including some weekends.
