EB Groton Shipyard Overview The Opportunity: General Dynamics, the worlds foremost designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking an Area Superintendent to support the Virgina-Class Submarine Ship Management organization based in Groton, CT. This is a high-visibility, 1st line Management Opportunity supporting the Electric Boat Shipyard in Groton, CT.
The Position: The Area Superintendent will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day activities of trade general foreman, foreman, and their hourly employees, to effectively execute work assignments in support of overhaul and repair or Virgina-Class construction.
The chosen candidate will be required to:
Work as a team with first and second shift Area Superintendents to ensure safety, quality, schedule, cost, and continuous improvement goals of each assigned project are met. Demonstrate a strong technical background and problem solving skills. Interface with all levels of EB management, operations, vendors, consultants, and military personnel, while reporting directly to the Ship Manager. Have a strong working knowledge of 3G/7G databases and Artemis runs. All applicants must be able to work independently with little to no oversight, possess an energetic positive attitude, display sound critical thinking and leadership qualities and be willing to adapt as requirements of assigned tasks change.
The individual is expected to support working extended hours and weekends as needed.
Responsibilities Excellent communication skills; written, verbal, and presentation. Broad knowledge of trade disciplines and EB procedures. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer software. Critical thinking Leadership ability Qualifications Required: High School diploma or equivalent 5+ years of related trade, industrial, Navy, or related shipyard / submarine experience as an individual contributor Experience working in a supervisory capacity within the trades or shipyard Expertise in a lead trade field (i.e piping, mechanical, steel, electrical) Preferred: BS in a formal engineering discipline 10 years of Shipbuilding or Military experience Navy backgrounds with VA-Class Submarine experience PI********
