Position Description The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington is seeking an open rank faculty position as full-time Assistant Professor (without tenure by reason of funding), Associate Professor (without tenure by reason of funding) or Full Professor (without tenure by reason of funding) on the Clinician Scholar pathway to join the Division of Cardiology. Academic rank at the time of appointment is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Anticipated start date is Winter 2024.
The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professors $17,865 - $26,797 per month ($214,380 - $321,564 annually), Associate Professors $21,445 - $32,169 per month ($257,340 - $386,028 annually), Professors $27,515 - $41,273 per month ($330,180 - $495,276 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children's University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).
Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
General expectations: The primary responsibility of this position will be as an academic clinical pediatric cardiologist specializing in heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and heart transplantation. Perform responsibilities in a wide range of areas in pediatric congenital heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and heart transplantation. Engage in the interpretation of imaging, catheterization, laboratory medicine, pathology, physiological and scientific data in the field of heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and transplantation. Provide all aspects of care and consultation, direct and indirect, to this complex patient population. Engage with referring providers and families to assure that the needs of patients and families are being met. Provide mentorship to trainees and junior faculty. Participate in task forces and committees as requested by the applicable service line or Seattle Children's Leadership. Clinical Care: Serves as an inpatient consultant in the cardiac, pediatric, and neonatal intensive care units, and as a primary attending on the Heart Failure and Transplant Inpatient Service. Timely attendance of rounds and completion of consultation and inpatient notes and contribution to the multidisciplinary care of this complex patient population; supports safe, efficient and high-quality services. Attends Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathy, and Transplant clinics. Supervises the Resource service by working with nursing coordinators to triage and provide care to patients at home. Intakes and provides recommendations to referring providers in the region at large. Ensures appropriate coordination and integration with other services in the care of their patients. Planning: Works with administrative and clinical leaders to support quality and performance improvement to ensure that program goals are attained. Participates in task forces and committees, as applicable to Service line or Seattle Children's leadership. Regulatory: Supports timely review of any patient safety events. Responds in a timely manner to physician or patient related feedback or complaints. Supports legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements. Supports and participates in M&M program and identifies opportunities for improvement Provides input to continuing education activities designed to maintain and enhance competencies Maintains professionalism with regards to billing, documentation, conference attendance and collaboration with peers, trainees, staff, patients and families. Research: Maintain a productivity commensurate for rank and for the Clinician Scholar pathway in either educational, original scientific, or quality and outcome type of investigation. Seek opportunities to become actively involved in scientific investigation. Participate in research methods through training or experience. Education: Support cardiac clinical educational programs for nursing, medical students, residents, fellows, ancillary staff, and ARNPs. Participate and contributes to quality improvement projects and/or curriculum development. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship and service.
Qualifications The successful candidate will have earned an MD or DO (or foreign equivalent).
Board certified or eligible in Pediatric Cardiology with 4th year specialty training in Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathy and Transplant or a closely related field
Must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of a foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
