JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director of Nursing is to provide nursing services under the direction of the Director of Nursing in accordance with established policies and procedures of the facility, and local, state and federal regulations, to maximize the fulfillment of care-giving needs of the residents.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

• Recognize and respond to changes in residents' conditions and document observations, interventions and outcomes
• Evaluate resident conditions; assist in development of overall care plans for residents and restorative activities
• Review and re-write care initiatives as directed
• Order medications from facility pharmacy
• Assist in facilitating the coordination of nursing services leave with interdisciplinary team
• Assist in reviewing, monitoring, intervention and documentation of complaints and grievances from residents, families, visitors and employees
• Assist in organizing, managing, reviewing, monitoring, authorizing and administering nursing care functions for residents within the facility
• Assist with the scheduling report of personnel as well as the daily assignments of individuals working in the Nursing Services Department
• Assist in making routine rounds; conduct tours with others
• Monitor the workplace for possible health and safety hazards, assist in the development and conducting of routine health and safety; back care training programs to prevent worker injuries
• Coordinate with workers comp coordinator and offer reasonable accommodations for early return to work programs
• Assist the DON with evaluating the competencies of nursing staff
• Follow and assist in the development and implementation of universal precautions and isolation procedures; assist in reviewing and monitoring compliance by staff
• Assist in inventorying, identifying and monitoring the storage of equipment, supplies, etc.
• Assist in planning and developing of in-service education for staff on related nursing services functions; conduct training as directed
• Participate in various meetings of the facility, such as care plan conferences, infection control, quality assessment and assurance, and any others as assigned by the DON
• Assist in determining the staffing needs of the Nursing Services Department, including the recruitment and hiring of nursing personnel
• Meet with nursing personnel, as scheduled, to assist identify and correct problems, and/or the improvement of services
• Assist in arranging for and overseeing resident admissions, transfers and discharges
• Other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Encourage an atmosphere of optimism, warmth and interest in residents' personal and health care needs
• Assist in maintaining a reference library of written nursing materials that will assist the Nursing Services Department to meet residents' needs and comply with state and federal regulations
• Maintain privacy and confidentiality of records, conditions, and other information relating to residents, employees and facility
• Manage staff
• Participate in surveys made by authorized government agencies
• Perform emergency procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Recognize, intervene and report accidents and incidents when they occur
• Successful completion of required training
• Handle multiple priorities effectively
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience:
o Preferred two (2) years' experience in supervision of others in a health care institution
o Minimum of one (1) year experience implementing total patient care and care planning
o Minimum of (6) months experience in geriatric and/or psychiatric nursing
• License/Certification(s):
o Registered Nursing Degree required
o Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee
o Current CPR Certification
