Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking an Assistant General Counsel with a minimum of six to eight years of relevant experience for HJF's in-house legal department at its Bethesda, Maryland headquarters.
Reporting to HJF's General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel will provide advice and guidance on a broad range of legal matters including, but not limited to: federal procurement, assistance, and other transaction agreements; intellectual property and data rights; biotechnology transfer and licensing; clinical research and development; R&D consortiums and collaborations; public-private partnerships; employment law; corporate and nonprofit governance; ethics; international operations; compliance with laws and regulations; and legal research; and representation in litigation or alternative dispute resolution.
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine.
We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing, and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the U.S. armed forces and civilians alike.
Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners.
HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities Provide legal and strategic advice and representation to HJF and its affiliates and provide authoritative counsel on many diverse and complex areas of law.Review and assist with the drafting and negotiation of many types of agreements including, but not limited to, federal procurement, assistance, and other transaction agreements; teaming agreements; clinical research and development agreements; R&D consortium and collaboration agreements; and biotechnology commercialization and licensing agreements.Participate in investigations and research legal questions.Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience Law degree from an accredited law school.Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant experience required.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated experience in federally funded research and development projects under procurement contracts, assistance agreements, and other transaction agreements; intellectual property and data rights; clinical research and development; R&D consortiums and collaborations; biotechnology licensing and commercialization; and public-private partnerships.Excellent written and oral communication skills, diplomacy, and problem-solving skills.Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and leadership skills, as well as demonstrated skill in handling complex legal issues in a timely manner and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Prior in-house experience is preferred.Biomedical/biotechnology industry experience is a plus.Knowledge of FDA regulations governing medical products is a plus but not required.Required Licenses, Certification, or Registration Bar membership, preferably in Maryland.Work Environment This is a hybrid position that will primarily take place in an office setting.Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $150,000-$180,000.
