It's Work That Matters. Overview ASSISTANT GENERAL COUNSEL – Labor & Employment
Los Angeles, California (100% on-site)

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Assistant General Counsel serves within the Office of the General Counsel of Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and provides legal support to CHLA, in order to advance its mission with an overall objective of minimizing organizational liability. The Office of the General Counsel of CHLA is seeking a sharp, self-motivated attorney with at least 10+ years of labor and employment advice and litigation experience. This role will require a deep understanding of employment law, experience with labor preferred, strong analytical skills, and the ability to navigate complex legal matters within a fast-paced and innovative environment. Critical to this role is the ability to advise stakeholders on their options and methods to minimize organizational legal risk and ensure compliance with laws.
This role reports directly to the General Counsel.
Ideal candidates will possess or demonstrate the following: Track record of partnering effectively with cross-functional teams and providing proactive, solution-oriented advice to stakeholders on a number of legal and regulatory issuesSignificant experience working with Human Resources in advising on the entire employee cycle – recruitment, onboarding, background checks, discipline, performance management, terminations, RIFs, accommodations, interactive process, DEI, pay equity, and wage and hour complianceExperience working on labor issues, understanding NLRA obligations, experience with campaigns, and unfair practicesExperience in, or working understanding of, OFCCP complianceExperience handling and/or managing employment litigation/arbitration, EEOC/CRD charges, DLSE charges, and wage and hour disputes.Ability to proactively approach all aspects of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, witness preparation, settlement negotiations, and trial and appellate strategiesExperience managing outside counsel, guiding case strategy, and identifying/resolving potential areas of remediationExperience conducting investigations, overseeing privileged investigations, and advising HR on routine investigations.Experience educating business partners on new laws and general labor and employment compliance.Experience developing and implementing policies concerning labor and employment.Resourcefulness, strong intellectual curiosity, and ability to quickly learn complex systems and their legal framework.Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with proven experience in relationship building and partnering.Experience working with healthcare entities is a plus. Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 10+ years of labor & employment counseling and employment litigation experience working at a law firm, the government, and/or in-house setting, or in healthcare setting. Healthcare or government experience is strongly preferred. Significant employment advice and counsel experience.

Education/Licensure/Certifications: Juris Doctorate degree. Bar Admission in at least one US State. Excellent academic credentials.
Pay Scale Information $169,936.00-$305,760.00

The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
