The Assistant Landfill Manager position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating landfill operations and employees to ensure that performance goals are met while maintaining compliance with the EPA.
Landfill Managers ensure the highest standards of environmental safety and environmental compliance are met while minimizing operational costs and maximizing productivity.
The hours and level of responsibility may vary by location.
Days: Monday - Friday Hours: 7:00 am - 5:00 pm Responsibilities of Position: Manage landfill operations and operate equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies and ensure the same of others.
Develop and maintain operational goals and plans to include all program requirements, labor hours.
Determine responsibilities and scheduling of employees.
Maintain landfill to meet requirements for EPA inspections and County Health Department.
Ensure production and quality control standards.
Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded.
Assist with developing budgets and cost controls, and obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications.
Coordinate landfill activities with all other functions of the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum productions and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
Review production and operating reports and direct the resolution of operations and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
Train all organizational and staff positions to accomplish Company and county plans.
Perform and conduct performance evaluations, monitor and track employee attendance, complete disciplinary actions/meetings, and all other required documentation relating to performance management.
Maintain proper records and files including all compliance and personnel records.
Oversee operation of trash fill area and complete necessary daily reports.
Ensure equipment preventive maintenance and repairs are being completed timely and efficiently while continuously monitoring equipment to ensure proper operation and minimal down time.
Over see ordering of lubes, fuel, and parts as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position: Good verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent customer relations and personnel management skills.
Able to read and understand landfill set grades using a surveyor's instrument and using GPS equipment preferred.
Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) certification, preferred.
Must demonstrate experience in problem solving, leadership, quality management, planning, organizing.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Ability to operate all landfill equipment preferred Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, regulations, policies, and safety training.
Physical Requirements in a Regular workday: Occasional lifting/carrying a max of 100lbs.
Occasional pushing/pulling a max of 100lbs.
Frequently walking.
Stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling Climbing and/or balancing Continuous work inside/outside, changing temperatures, and wet/humid conditions.
Continuous work in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, other airborne matter Additional Working Conditions/Aspects: Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.
Legally eligible to work in the United States.
Valid driver's license (if applicable).
Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
Must be able to read and speak the English language.
