Overview
Sunday River is seeking an Assistant Patrol Director. In cooperation with the Patrol Director, this role works as a leader of an on-hill risk management team, executing mountain rescues, responding to medical emergencies, and providing a safe and welcoming environment to the public while mentoring and developing the Patrol team. The Assistant Patrol Director partners with other Mountain Operations managers and resort staff, striving toward the success of the resort as a whole.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist the Director with staff safety and compliance, the financial performance of the department, interdepartmental communication, establishing policy and procedure for the Patrol team, and developing future leaders for the organization.Responsible for staff supervision and development, resource allocation and management, risk management, and emergency scene management.Support other team members in difficult situations and represent the resort in significant decisions.Exercise sound judgment with consideration of effects on other departments and the company.Perform all duties of other Patrol leaders and line staff as needed from a teamwork perspective.Assist with the administration of the Patrol department, including hiring and onboarding.Assume full department management responsibility in the absence of the Patrol Director.Facilitate ongoing training and staff development.Work with the Patrol Director and the Director of Safety and Risk on Incident Investigation processes. Qualifications At least 18 years of age.High School Diploma.Must have an EMT, WFR, or OEC certification or greater at time of hire. Within the first 2 seasons, attains and maintains current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certification.Current healthcare provider CPR/AED certification.Expert-level ski or snowboard ability.Comfortable working with children and adults of all ages.Leadership knowledge and ability.Calm, professional demeanor; inclusive; accepting.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Confidence in handling stressful situations, including difficult guest interactions.Five or more seasons as a ski patroller.One or more seasons in a patrol supervisory or management role.Other experience working in the customer service or hospitality industry preferred.Other experience in healthcare, especially in an emergency setting preferred.Other experience with climbing or rescue tools, such as ropes, carabiners, and friction devices; and techniques, such as belaying or mechanical advantage systems preferred.
