The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. In pursuit of this mission, we are an Assistant Principal. Assistant Principals in the Lansing School District work hand in hand with the Principal in their building, supporting instruction, culture, and community engagement. An Assistant Principal develops teachers through observations, professional development, and evaluation. They will also develop relationships with students and families, creating and supporting schoolwide behavior intervention systems. Many Assistant Principals in the District also take on special projects such as standardized testing administration, community engagement events, and overseeing extracurricular activities. Assistant Principals are crucial in the everyday operation of our schools. This posting is going live on 11/19/24. We will review first round of applicants 10 days later.
\n Minimum QualificationsBachelor's DegreeValid Michigan School Administrator Certificate (if you don't currently have this but are working towards it or believe you're eligible for alternative certification, you may still apply)Demonstrated success in teaching, instructional coaching, behavior intervention, and community engagementAt least three years of teaching experienceAlignment with Lansing School District's mission and values Preferred QualificationsMaster's Degree in Teaching, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or related fieldValid Michigan Teacher CertificateAt least five years of successful teaching experience Previous school administrative experience Job Responsibilities: School Culture & AdministrationCreate a professional learning community that focuses on curriculum and instruction as the primary vehicle for improving student achievement and school cultureEstablish school routines, procedures, and expectations that foster a safe and inclusive environment focused on outcomes and student growthSupport the implementation of research-based initiatives related to climate and culture & consistently evaluate the effectiveness of all initiativesDevelop a daily schedule that will provide for the efficient, effective, and safe operation of the schoolSupervise and monitor the accuracy of student records including attendance and student learningOrganize and supervise all support service personnel for optimum school performancePlan and supervise fire, tornado, and lockdown drillsImplement student code of conduct and maintain student discipline according to Board and state policies Job Responsibilities: Data-Driven Instructional LeadershipDevelop a vision of excellence for academic instruction that focuses on student learning and outcomesMonitor the implementation of an integrated curriculum that meets the needs of all the studentsCollaborate with other school and District leaders to provide targeted professional development that emphasizes student outcomes and is aligned with District goalsConduct personnel evaluations, offer feedback, and provide support that facilitates staff and student growth through positive interactionsUse data to design individual staff and student achievement goals that are rigorous, realistic, and aligned to District prioritiesUtilize student achievement and process data to interpret progress towards goals and drive decision making around curriculum and instruction Job Responsibilities: Community EngagementMaintain effective and positive relationships with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, and outside agenciesRespond promptly and professionally to common inquiries and complaintsAssess community expectations and perceptions of school performanceCommunicate with community members through a variety of means (i.e., social media, newsletters, and meetings)Recruit new and utilize existing community resources to support building programs and goals
\n$86,100 - $99,722.25 a year
Salary range depends on size of school, length of contract, and age of students. For non LASA members, previous experience will not be counted towards your salary placement.
