Who We Are Since its founding in 2010, Challenge Preparatory Charter School (Challenge Prep) has provided students and families with a successful academic program in Far Rockaway, Queens. We currently serve over 1200 scholars from Kindergarten to 12th grade across 3 sites. Our school's mission is to prepare students from the greater Far Rockaway community to excel academically, to demonstrate mastery of the NY State Learning Standards, and to achieve their career aspirations. Challenge cultivates and supports the intellectual, aesthetic, social, emotional, and ethical development of its students and prepares them to be responsible 21st century citizens. To accomplish its mission, Challenge offers a rigorous instructional program in a safe, supportive, technology-infused and data-enriched and social-emotional learning sequence, authentic field experiences, career counseling, and college coursework. Understanding the Role The Assistant Principal (AP) is an instructional and strategic leader responsible for leveraging teacher performance to ensure students demonstrate significant and measurable results. This position reports to the Principalof their assigned grade span (K-5). The AP is a deliberate coach and effective manager responsible for helping teachers and scholars realize their full potential by providing high-quality coaching and feedback to teachers so that they develop their instructional practice at an accelerated rate. The AP works collaboratively with the school leadership team to develop a school-wide culture of respect and achievement and a team culture grounded in common goals, mutual respect, empathy towards others, and an appreciation of diversity. He/she is a next generation educator who is a critical thinker and innovative problem solver with a high level of emotional intelligence.
