Assistant Professor with expertise in Community Health Education (CHE); 9-month, tenure-track position in the Department of Public Health, which offers BSPH, MPH, and PhD degrees. This appointment begins no sooner than August 1, 2025. Starting salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Responsibilities. Establish and maintain an independent, extramurally funded research program that results in refereed journal publications. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Serve on departmental, college, and university committees to advance the Department of Public Health. Advise primarily graduate students and direct doctoral dissertations. Provide professional services for the department, college, university, and discipline, as appropriate.

The Department of Public Health is one of eight departments within the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. Our MPH has over 50 years of CEPH accreditation. Ours is a growing department, providing public health training and education including a minor, BSPH, and an accelerated MPH degree. We have a history of strong and positive relationships with state and local public health organizations, including the Knox County Health Department, which is an established academic health department, the Tennessee Department of Health, and the workforce. We also have fruitful relationships with UTK Extension, UT Medical Center, and various departments across the university. Our MPH degree offers 5 concentrations in Community Health Education, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, Public Health Nutrition, and Veterinary Public Health, with four having online options. In addition, the UTK Department of Public Health offers a PhD in Public Health Sciences. Required: Earned doctoral degree in Public Health or related field at time of appointment; demonstrated commitment to advancing health equity; published research in refereed journals; demonstrated potential for or track record of obtaining extramural funding for research, consistent with rank; accomplishments relevant to discipline and commensurate with graduation date and/or rank; and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Desired: Earned doctoral or MPH degree from a school or program of public health accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH); demonstrated ability to teach CHE-related areas, face-to-face or online teaching experience; and evidence of community collaboration in research and/or practice.
