Assistant Professor in Chicano and Latino Studies - Sonoma State UniversityPosition Type: Instructional Faculty - Temporary/Lecturer
The primary professional responsibilities of the faculty will be teaching, research, scholarship, and/or creative activity, and service to the University. These responsibilities generally include:
Advising studentsParticipation in campus and systemwide committeesMaintaining office hoursWorking collaboratively and productively with colleaguesParticipation in traditional academic functionsThe successful candidate will initially be expected to teach lower division courses and upper-division courses (12 units per semester) in the Spanish Program and the Chicano and Latino Studies Department, equally throughout the academic year, per the needs of each program. The candidate will be expected to teach and develop courses in Spanish and in English, given that courses in the Spanish Program are taught in Spanish and courses taught in the Chicano and Latino Studies are taught in English.
A core duty of this position will be to strengthen and expand General Education Area F (Ethnic Studies) course offerings. The candidate will also collaborate to strengthen pathways to teaching in Chicano and Latino Studies, the teaching track in Chicano and Latino Studies, and the Spanish program. In addition, the candidate will teach courses in their area of expertise. Faculty members are expected to mentor students, engage the broader community, and maintain an active research profile.
