The Bachelor of Arts in Dance is for developing artists seeking a broad and rich background in both theory and practice. The degree is designed to foster the skills, understanding, and discipline of our developing dance artists. Our robust B.A. in Dance curriculum includes intensive training in ballet, modern/contemporary dance, and composition classes through a lens of Cultural Competency and Advocacy; complemented by improvisation, dance history, kinesiology, pedagogy, Hip Hop styles, African American concert dance history, jazz, conditioning and yoga. Based in Mindfulness practices, the nurturing, yet rigorous, environment offers dance majors many transformative experiences to develop their unique artistry. The Dance Program is committed to fostering a full experience for each of its students. Position
The Department of Theatre and Dance is seeking an artist/scholar with a focus in interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches to teaching and scholarly/creative activities. This new position is designed for an artist/scholar rooted in the dances and cultures of the Latin Americas, Caribbean and/or African Diaspora, with a knowledge of concert dance/contemporary techniques. The applicants' pedagogy and scholarly/creative activities should be rooted in Latine and/or Africanist aesthetics and vernaculars, including, but not limited to: Afro-Latine, Folklorico, Caribbean forms, Afro-fusion, Pan-African, indigenous ancestral dances and street dance practices, all to be taught at various levels. The required expertise can be blended or combined with forms of contemporary/modern dance techniques. The primary assignments will include studio-based courses in dance practice and dance composition, as well as dance theory-based courses (criticism, theory, history, etc.). Applicants should have experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups.
We are especially interested in qualified candidates with a demonstrated commitment, through their research/creative activities, teaching, and service, to innovating dance curriculum in response to the diversity of our student population and contribute to California State University, Fullerton's commitment to social justice (https://www.fullerton.edu/it/_resources/pdfs/Social_Justice_Framework_Flyer.pdf ).
CSUF faculty are committed teachers/scholars/artists who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, labs, studios, productions and individually mentored projects. This position will also be responsible for producing scholarship/creative work commensurate with the requirements for tenure. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to and participate in the culture and development of the Dance Program and Department, advise students, serve on committees, choreograph for departmental productions, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.
Required Qualifications
M.F.A or Ph.D. in Dance or a related field.
Established professional experience in dance as a performing artist and/or choreographer.
Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching, with 2-year minimum teaching experience.
A strong record of scholarly/creative accomplishments within the areas listed for this search.
Experience in working collaboratively with colleagues.
Ability to balance teaching, scholarship, and service.
Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with students from intersecting marginalized social groups.
Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of employing anti-racist teaching strategies that support the learning and success of students from marginalized social groups (Black, Latine, Asian American & Pacific Islander, first-generation college students, etc.)
Evidence of research/creative activities that contributes to equity, opportunities, and inclusion in higher education.
Evidence of mentorship and student engagement in research, scholarship, and creative activities.
Incorporation of explicit elements of mindfulness practices in teaching.

Compensation
The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6,221 to monthly $13,224 (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $7,142 to $7,282 per month.
Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work (https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/california_equal_pay_act.htm ).
Summer research grants, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
