Assistant Professor in United States History The Department of History at Purdue University Fort Wayne invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in United States History with a specialization in African American history or history of other marginalized groups (time period is open but with preference for a pre-20th century research focus). Applicants with additional areas of specialization that complement our current teaching and research strengths, such as experience and interest in Digital Humanities and Public History, are encouraged to apply.
The teaching load is three courses per semester, comprising 3-4 total course preparations for the academic year. The Assistant Professor will teach U.S. survey courses, as well as a selection of upper-level courses in their area of specialization. Opportunities to teach an interdisciplinary, team-taught topics course for the College of Liberal Arts also exist. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, an interest in taking an active role in the student-centered culture of the program, evidence that they can establish and maintain an active research agenda, and a willingness to contribute to service at the department, college, university, or community levels. This is a full-time position and includes a competitive salary and benefits package.
Qualifications Applicants must either hold a Ph.D. in history or must have earned a Ph.D. by the start of the 2025 Fall Semester. Completion of the degree is a requirement for taking up the appointment. The applicant must demonstrate relevant teaching experience and effectiveness in the classroom.
