Job Summary and Qualifications At HCA Healthcare, we are committed to providing our patients and care providers with the highest quality of healthcare services. The AVP of Machine Learning Engineering will play a critical role in helping us achieve this goal by developing innovative digital products that leverage data science to improve patient outcomes.
The AVP of Machine Learning (ML) Engineering is responsible for designing, building, scaling, and maintaining foundational AI models, algorithms, and machine learning platform capabilities to host the end-to-end lifecycle of data science products. As an engineering leader in HCA's Care Transformation and Innovation team, this role drives all the technical aspects from incubation through the Minimum Lovable Product stage in a cross-functional environment. This role works closely with IT and Security teams, data scientists, business stakeholders, care providers, and academic and industry partners to enable agile development of machine learning solutions that leverage large volumes of internal and external data.
Key Responsibilities: Responsible for delivering tools and reference architectures for common patterns in MLOps. Responsible for integrating Responsible AI policies with the MLOps lifecycle. Responsible for incubating early-stage ideas in partnership with clinical leadership using a design thinking approach. Demonstrate desirability, feasibility and viability of the product. Oversee and mentor a team of machine learning engineers, cloud engineers, and data scientists. Partner with HR and Vendor Management offices to build and grow ML Engineering practice. Responsible for hiring, training, and developing Machine Learning Engineers. Provide technical product management to a cross-functional team of Cloud Engineering, Data Platforms, and Responsible AI to build enterprise-grade code-centric and low-code MLOps platforms. Partner with IT, Security, Data Governance and Ethics and Compliance teams to implement regulatory controls in AI development while maintaining lean MLOps practices. Partner with Data Science and App Delivery teams for a smooth transition to enterprise-scale development and sustainment. Be a champion of a great developer experience for Data Scientists. Seek continuous improvement in DORA metrics through feedback and automation. Stay current with the latest developments in healthcare AI and ML engineering. Work with directors and program managers to develop and maintain project plans, budgets, and timelines. Communicate with senior management and stakeholders to ensure alignment of goals and priorities. Develop and track engineering OKRs. Ensure the team follows best practices in cloud architecture, machine learning, and data engineering. This job may require up to 25% travel. Education: Bachelors Degree Required Master Degree Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors: REQUIREMENTS
15+ years of full-stack experience building and scaling data/digital products. 5+ years of experience managing and mentoring a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers and their career development. 5+ years of experience building and deploying AI/ML solutions in production. Expert in using the full lifecycle of MLOps platforms such as GCP VertexAI or AWS Sagemaker in agile model delivery and operations. Experience in data de-identification techniques, synthetic data generation, and PHI and PII data handling with robust governance. Prior programming experience in Python, Java, or Infrastructure-as-Code. Proficiency in statistics and data science. Experience with SQL, NoSQL databases, and distributed computing. Strong communication skills and ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Decisive leadership with empathy and kindness. PREFERRED
A combination of start-up and enterprise experience. Experience in the healthcare domain. Experience working with R&D and academic partners in incubating novel solutions and intellectual property. Experience with GCP cloud native services and serverless/ephemeral architectures. Conceptual understanding of Generative AI, LLMs and Transformer architecture. Outcomes :
